Finally Saturday came, and it came with a bang.
Mark had left an hour before I planned on leaving. He gathered Amy, Tyler, Ethan, and Kathryn at the house, who I caught up with while Mark prepped for the trip. He supplied himself with treats, a pooper scooper and the little green bags, a few toys, snacks for themselves, and that's all that I knew of. He mentioned he'd be staying out late, they'd spend their time at a dog park and by the beach. Although it was a little misty and dull out there, it didn't stop Mark and the gang from giving Chica some fresh air and excitement. I couldn't be happier for the pup, it would be one of the greatest days of her life.
We all said our farewells for the day. I watched them all drive off in the car, Chica sticking her head out of the window with her tongue flapping against the wind. Sure, I was a little bothered that I wasn't able to tag along, but I didn't want to ditch on my plans with Kara. To pass some time, I played an episode of Arrow, the season one finale. By the end of it, I was drowning in tears watching as one of the main characters met their demise while risking their life.
Eventually it came time to leave, it was about 2:42 when I realized that I didn't have a ride. I was so used to being driven everywhere, and I didn't go out much, that I forgot about my car in the garage. Remembering that only took a second, but where were the keys? And when was the last time I drove the car, or a car in general?
I stormed to my room, searching through my closet first. Through all the clothes lying around on the ground and resting on hooks, I found something distinct. There was a miscellaneous box labeled 'keepsakes' that gave me a warm feeling. Wow, I should look through this eventually. I placed that back where I had left it, moving onto my dresser. After opening the drawer closest to the carpet, I tossed all the random types of clothing out until I found a set of keys.
"Bingo." Snatching the car keys, I ran out of my room leaving it a complete and utter mess.
Walking out the back door, I was greeted by the compact backyard. I don't remember the last time I'd gone out there, as a matter of fact I don't know when the last time Mark was back there. It desperately needed to be mowed, that's for sure. I took the sidewalk that led to the garage door. Knowing the door was locked I scrambled through the few keys and found the one with a faded green mark on it.
Unlocking the door was easy, but getting the door to open was a different story. I had to slam my shoulder into the door a few times before it opened. Turns out something was blocking it, though I didn't have the time to see what. I attempted to unlock the car with the remote but it didn't work. Instead, I used the main key and unlocked the passenger door that way. Jumping into the passenger's seat, I climbed across to the driver's seat. I got myself comfortable in the seat, made a couple adjustments to it and the mirrors, and put on my seatbelt.
"Here goes nothing." I inserted the key into the ignition.
But nothing happened. The engine spurted, but the car failed to turn on. After a couple more attempts I gave up, coming to the conclusion that the car battery most likely died. I should've known, it had been a year or so since I'd actually driven the car. I wanted to scream and pout like a child, but instead I groaned, removing my seatbelt and getting out of the car.
How was I supposed to get there now? How else do people get around? Taxi services.
Guess I was calling an Uber. For the first time in my life I'd be using an Uber, and I didn't realize how complicated their service was until then.
