"Woah," Mark walked into the house with a drowsy Chica by his side. "I'm surprised to see you up this early!""What time is it?" I paused the episode. I hadn't kept track of time since I woke up.
"10:24."
Damn. Was it really almost eleven? "Well I'll let you know I woke up at four in the morning."
"How come?" He asked, going over to the dining room table with mysterious shuffling going on.
"Couldn't sleep. I went right to bed after you dropped me off." Chica hopped on the couch and begged for my attention by pushing her nuzzle under my hand. Of course I succumbed to her cuteness.
"You slept for that long?"
I nodded. "Tell me about it. I've been watching my show since I woke up, got through nearly half this season."
"Interesting." Before I could resume the episode, Mark spoke again. "You good? Have any bad dreams?"
Great. Now it was all coming back to me. I stopped petting Chica; much to her disappointment. "I'd rather not think about it." I replied simply.
"Fair enough. I'll be in my room if you wanna talk." He did mention one last detail that grasped my attention. "I also bought doughnuts–"
"Did you say..." I twisted my body around to face Mark.
"Doughnuts?"
I leapt over the couch and ran for Mark at the dining room table. He moved out of the way and revealed the box. I opened the lid to see fat central. The glazed, the long johns, the cream-filled, it made my mouth water just looking at the precious bundle of dough and frosting.
"Hey-" I whined as Mark shut the case and kept his hand over it. I gave him a pouty face.
"You can have some doughnuts..."
"If..." I saw that coming. "You talk about what happened yesterday. And before you say anything yes- I know you said it was better to not talk about it, but it is. Keeping it inside and never letting it out makes those feelings wild and cramped, once they're let out something dangerous can happen. I don't want that to happen to you."
"Okay okay okay." I rolled my eyes. "Christ. Enough with the sappy shit! Fine, I'll give you some details if you'll stop being so damn caring all the time."
Mark chuckled. "You know for a fact that won't happen."
"Yep." We stood silently there by the table. I wanted to make a move, but I innocently whistled instead until I saw the realization glimmer in his brown eyes.
"So are you gonna...? Ohhh." Once he realized, I took the opening and stole the doughnuts. "Wait, hey!" I bounced away in victory.
"Catch me if you can Mark!" My first instinct was to run for my room, but I was looking for a room to lock myself in. That room was the bathroom. As speedily as I could, I stormed down the hall and slid into the bathroom, locking the door swiftly behind me. Mark was hot on my heels, however he had no chance with my head start.
"C'mon, E! At least let me have one doughnut, I bought them!" That was true, but he was coercing me which I did not appreciate.
