There was faint humming and ringing in my ears.
"You there?"
A voice whispered.
"You're okay."
It comforted.
"Everything will be fine."
It relieved.
"Wake up, Edith."
Everything was coming back to me. I could feel my body awakening and my consciousness, previously stripped from me, being summoned back again. I felt cold; my head throbbed, but despite that there was no fiery pain that I expected to wake up to. Something grazed my eyelashes and my eyelids fluttered open. I wasn't happy with what greeted me; not one single bit. At first the voice had soothed me. Made me feel no worries, made me feel safe and comfortable. I thought it was Mark trying to coax me awake after what had happened.
Now it made sense. I was surrounded by blackness, and the man standing right before me was none other than my little stalker so I liked to call him. The copy cat, the doppelgänger, that darker Mark. He grinned with his pearly white teeth showing. His dark eyes dug into me. That face of his always gave me shivers whenever I saw it.
"Before you say anything let me clarify something. You're not dead, just unconscious."
I'd rather have been dead then be around him again.
"You always show up in such inopportune times, you know that right?"
He snickered with amusement. "Of course. That's the fun part of being me. I'm unpredictable."
"Okay cool," I began to walk backwards. "Now I'm just gonna wake up and go back to the real world so if you'd just leave me alone-"
"Going so soon?"
The way he said it made me stop in my tracks.
"There are so little chances we're going to talk like this, and you have some questions. Isn't that right? Please do ask away, but make it...quick." All of a sudden he zoomed up right in front of me. A gust of air followed himself and slammed into me.
"Our time is limited here."
Now was my chance. There were so many questions I wanted to ask him, but were there any that would make me feel better, or would they just hurt me?
"What happened back there?"
"Well," he tapped his chin. "Unfortunately your laptop malfunctioned: overheated. The overwhelming temperature caused it to burst. Crazy, right?"
How in the world was that...how?
"What? H-how is that even goddamn possible?" I was suddenly filled with rage. "That doesn't just happen on it's own. I wasn't even on it for that long! Did you do something?" I snarled, pointing at him.
