Kya's abilities came in handy. There was a drainage pole or a waterline of some kind running up the side of the school next to the window. Kya froze it, allowing us to slide down it. Felt like I was a ninja or something.

We made a mad dash for Trenton's car. He placed the keys in the ignition once we were inside, but of course the car didn't start.

The mob poured through the front doors of the school, sprinting towards the street where we were parked.

"Bro, we gotta go." I said to him.

"I know. Just give me a second." Trenton said. He stepped out of the car like nothing was wrong and opened the hood. I heard rummaging and then a, "there it is!"

The mob at this point was closing in. I could see Helena from a distance standing with her arms crossed near the entrance of the school. Beside her were two men in heavy winter jackets. They had the same Third Reich haircut and sun glasses, even though there was no sun. Bodyguards maybe?

The mob crossed the street. One of the kids ran right in front of a moving truck and was knocked to the ground. Dead on impact.

The driver tried to get out but the students, teachers, and what looked to be janitorial staff flooded around the moving truck, straight for us.

"Hi, your Trenton, right?" Kya shouted to Trenton from inside the car.

Trenton being outside gave a muffled, "Yes, Kya, I'm Trenton."

How did they know each other?

"Uhhhh," Kya stuttered on her words as she looked back at the fast approaching crowd. "Think you could go a little faster?"

"Sorry. Forgot that this one wire keeps coming loose up here. I usually check it before I get out." Trenton slammed the hood shut.

I locked my door. Kya locked hers and the one behind the passenger seat. Trenton slipped inside the car right as a student body slammed right into his car door.

He acted like nothing was wrong. "Sorry guys. That's my bad." He threw up his hands and gave a guilty look on his face.

"Dude, drive!" I yelled.

"Oh. Right." Trenton said turning back to the steering wheel and starting up the car. I didn't realize it when he had picked me up, but the thing literally sounded like there was a living animal caught inside the motor as he revved the engine.

Trenton then slammed down on the pedal and turned to head back towards what I imagined was the interstate, but the car was slow off the jump.

The mob began to latch on.

Three students, then a grown man. The same burly teacher who had greeted us at the classroom door. Stared at me with those blank eyes from the rear windshield. They pulled on the underside of the car digging their feet into the ground to keep us from moving.

Trenton proceeded to burn rubber. Hard.
The mob behind us pulled but they began to lose their footing. We shot away from them like we had been launched out of a cannon.

"You can take this road all the way to 94." Kya said, trying to control the quiver in her voice. She continued to look out the window at the mob that was still pursuing us on foot. They looked like specks of dust now. As of right now we were safe.

"Nope. West Pershing, to 55 then on to 43 northbound. We gotta make Milwaukee by tomorrow evening. Ori-gen will have 94 locked down."

"Girl, you go to school around here and you you want him to go through Chicago? Might as well tell us to wait in a parking lot. Tell me you not really that dumb?" I asked her, casually.

Kya shot me a dirty look.

"I know the traffic is terrible." She barked, "I was just thinking that if we got caught, there'd be witnesses. The cops could help us or something."

She turned back in her seat and gave it an angry push with the back of head causing the headrest to bump into my face.

"You know, things like that ain't making me wanna kill you any less." I growled to her.

She swore at me and turned back. Then she stopped, a dead stare hanging across her face.

"What? You got something you wanna say?" I opened my arms wide to let her know I welcomed the fight.

She opened her mouth, but no words came out.

"What you staring at?" I asked her again.

Kya pointed out the rear window. I turned back and saw five black SUV's tailing us. They were coming in fast.

"Calvary here?" Trenton tilted his head slightly back towards us.

I think he saw that both of our faces were caught in a place somewhere between shock and fear. He turned back to the wheel and muttered to himself, "I'll take that as a yes."
