Adisa sat on the balcony- relishing in the chill of the city winter. Emen was curled into the hinge of his hip- purring as Adisa rubbed the kittens head. He looked out over the railing at the early morning city lights. He breathed out a sigh- his breath fogging in the cold air. His large hand was wrapped around the body of a white mug- inside it steaming coffee warmed his chin as he held the cup to his chest.
The world was silent around him. He made no noise and listened intently for any signs of life from inside the apartment. Montgomery had returned home from the hospital a week ago and was no sleeping like a rock in the queen sized bed- buried in the back of the apartment. Adisa couldn't help the smile that spread across his lips thinking of his younger lover.
Emen meowing loudly is what pulled from Adisa from his quiet thoughts. He picked the kitten up in one hand and plopped him just beyond the threshold of the balcony. Adisa closed the glass slider behind him and looked at Emen- who meowed again- telling his father he was ready for food. Adisa nodded- as if expecting a nod in return from the kitten. He set him white mug on the glass coffee table and Emen's ears flicked in that direction.
Adisa smiled fondly at the small animal and walked into the kitchen- making sure his footsteps weren't too heavy by walking on the balls of his feet. They were loud enough to let Emen know where his owner was going. Adisa pulled a small can of kitten food from the upper cupboard near the fridge and opened it. He crinkled his nose at the smell of the wet cat food and plopped it in his kitten's dish.
Emen trotted over- having found his way around the apartment. He lapped at the food and Adisa patted his head. Adisa stood up- both knees cracking and he groaned quietly. He raised his arms above his head- his fingertips' brushing the ceiling as he stretched his heavy muscles. He leaned into a light back bend and let out a grunt- his lower back cracking as he straightened up.
He turned his head to the clock. 7:30 AM. Still early for Monty. Adisa looked around the apartment- reluctant to turn the TV on in case it was too loud and woke his boyfriend. He decided that going out to get Monty's favorite Breakfast was a better idea and pulled leather boots given to him by Abel over his socked feet. He reached for Monty's AMERICAN MILITARY hoodie and pulled it on. He inhaled deeply- enjoying the scent of his lovers body wash. He smiled as he pulled the hoodie over his locs.
He grabbed his keys and stuck them in his pocket as well as grabbing his brown wallet. He looked back and made sure to check the Emen was still eating before leaving and locking the door behind him. He walked down the stairs- trotting instead of walking. He was humming a song his father used to sing when working in the paper mill.
He smiled wide at the door man as he left and the doorman returned the gesture by tipping his cap. Adisa shivered and dug his hands into his jean pockets as the crisp winter breeze brush by him. He walked to Brighton's and waited in line.
"Hey Adisa- what can I get for you today?" the barista asked with a grin.
"Just the usual please"
"How's Monty doing? Haven't seen him around here in almost a month" the barista- named Andrew- asked.
"He's recovering from being ill- he's still sleeping so I decided to get breakfast" Adisa replied- handing Andrew his debit card to pay for the order.
"Don't worry about it Adisa- this ones on the house" Andrew handed Adisa a tray with two to-go cups of tea and two blueberry muffins, "Tell Monty I said get well soon"
"Of course- he'll be happy to hear from you- have a wonderful day"
"You too Adisa!" Andrew waved good bye.
Adisa walked back to the apartment and opened the door. Emen was sleeping on the couch- full after his meal. Adisa pushed the door closed with his back and held the tray with one hand as he emptied his pockets on the door side table. He kicked off his shoes and headed to the bedroom. He opened the door softly and smiled fondly at Montgomery splayed out on the bed.
Monty's head was surrounded by every single pillow on the bed and the blankets curled around him like a caterpillar's cocoon. Adisa closed the door behind him and walked to his side of the bed. He set the tray down on his bed side table and sat on the bed. Adisa reached a hand out to bush Monty's locks out of his face.
"Lief- wake up" Adisa cooed, bending down to press a chaste kiss to Monty's forehead.
Monty stirred- letting out a little yawn and groaning- stretching his arms out above his head and wincing at the pain.
"I brought you food so you can take your painkillers quickly" Adisa explained ad Montgomery opened his sky blue eyes to study his lovers face. Adisa looked down at Monty with loving eyes and a warm grin- he reached a hand out to brush his thumb across Monty's still bruised cheek.
"You're an angel" Monty smiled sheepishly, "mój piękny anioł" (my beautiful angel)
"Maybe so love- but right now this angel is going to make you sit up and eat"
Monty pushed himself up on his elbows and then on his hands. He sat with his back against the headboard and yawned again. Monty's face was still very bruised- his nose swollen but set and he his right eye was black. But Adisa wasn't laying attention to that- he was watching the smile on his lovers face.
"Well- sit with me, will you?" Monty laughed and Adisa nodes, scooting closer to Monty so their shoulders were touching.
Adisa reached over and grabbed the tray- he placed it in his lap and handed Monty his muffin and tea. Monty said thank you and sipped gingerly on his tea. He leaned his head on Adisa's shoulder and wrapped his fingers with Adisa's.
"Andrew says get well soon" Adisa reported.
"I'm not sick- did you say I was sick?" Monty asked.
"It's easier to say that then to say what actually happened" Adisa looked at their intertwined fingers.
"That I got the shit beat out of me?" Monty said- mouth full of blueberry muffin.
"Over me- yes- I'd prefer not the explain that to everyone"
"Over you?" Monty looked at Adisa, "I wasn't beaten because of you" Monty placed the muffin on his bedside table and turned his body- sitting on his heels and taking Adisa's hand in both of his, "Addie- I was beaten because Mark is a shithead- he made a dumb remark and I countered back. The only one who is at fault here is him"
Adisa still looked down.
"Spójrz na mnie, proszę" (look at me, please)
Adisa looked Monty in the eyes and Monty leaned forwards- pressing their foreheads together. Monty closed his eyes- as did Adisa and pressed a kiss to the tip of Adisas nose.
'Adisa" Monty whispered, 'don't think so poorly of yourself- believe in me love"
'I believe in you cub" Adisa mumbled, 'i don't believe in myself- i couldn't protect you"
'I'm a man too Adisa- i don't need you to protect me- i know that what happened to Emen is still causing you heartache- let me in- let me help- i may be smaller than you but I'll hold you when you cry. Alright love?"
'marry me"
