Lesson 1.

"So where are you from?" Monty asked softly, still trying to will the blush away.

"Gambia" Nation smiled, "very lovely when not too hot" he snickered to himself, "the cold here is very new to me"

His English was a bit jumbled but he still spoke well, he was articulate, it was charming.

"Is it pretty?"

"Very much so, were you born here?"

"Yeah, born out in the country, raised in the suburbs, we still go out to the family farm each summer though"

"It sound like the farm down the road from my family when I was a child, the Dean mentioned to your father? About his kids? So do you have any siblings?" Nation asked, completely changing the subject and rambling a bit.

"Yeah" Monty laughed, "I have an two younger sisters and two older brothers"

"Ah, I have an older brother and two younger ones, as well as a little sister" Nation said.

"Can I ask you a question?" Monty asked.

"Yes, anything"

"Then I have two" Monty smiled.

"Ask away" Nation smiled showing off his rather white teeth.

"Your name, your birth name, what does it mean?"

"Adisa means 'The Clear One'"

"Do mind if I call you that, I think it's much prettier than Shawn."

"I agree and yes, you may call me that, was that your two questions?"

"Oh no" Monty shook his head, "I have many more like, how old are you?"

"I am 24, you?"

"19"

"So young" Adisa shook his head but chuckled.

"Why are you a sophomore in uni when you're 24?" Monty asked tentatively, not wanting to offend the simply stunning man next to him.

"I didn't come to America until two years ago, University is rare to go to with my childhood, we were very poor so we had no money, but I had a friend who went to America on scholarship and sent me money and helped me get my own scholarship here, and then I started to live with his girlfriend's family."

"I'm sorry you had to go through all of that, I couldn't even imagine it"

"It's okay, no harm, I still have all my close family and friends, I just have a very bright future" Adisa smiled widely.

"What do you want to do after college?"

"I want to become a doctor, help people" Adisa looked off into the distance, I never want to watch a person die if I have not done every little thing in my power to keep them alive"

"You sure are the clear one", Monty snickered, "and did you see someone pass, is that why you're so passionate?"

Adisa stopped walking and Monty stopped as well, Adisa pulled his dread locks into a low hanging pony tail and faced Monty, his eyes sad but still bright and excited, he was lustful watching the American move. Adisa reached forwards and took a loose strand off of the top of Montgomery's head and held it between his fingers so Monty could see and feel the tender touch.

"I watched my lover die of cholera" Adisa kept a small smile on his face as he relived the pain, "if we had been closer to a medical man he might have lived, but all there was was me, and I was useless"

"That sickness is hard Adisa, I'm sure you had nothing to do with it"

"It was years ago, I don't need any more consoling, I just need to keep Emem behind to not provide a distraction"

"You'll find another him" Montgomery swallowed the lump in his throat, he really wanted to kiss Adisa right now, provide him with comfort, arms to fall into, lips to hold.

"Americans always have such hope, I don't believe I will ever love again"

"I'll teach you"

"Pardon?"

"I'll teach you the hope of an American boy"
