The fire is raging. I'm helpless. The screamimg, its so horrible. I cover my ears trying to drown it out. The yellow eyes are getting closer to the body next to the fire. His brown eyes plead with me to save him, but the fire has built a wall between us.
" I can't save him, " I scream at the eyes.
.................................
I shoot up in bed shaking, and soaked in a cold sweat. At least I didn't scream this time. Its been so long since I had that dream. The terror from that night is still so raw, as is the guilt. After last night with Alex I haven't felt anything but guilt. Like I didn't deserve happiness. The last person who made me happy, died for it.
I sighed shaking away the sadness, and went to shower. The warm water soothed me. It didn't make me feel entirely better, but it was enough to keep the tears at bay.
Its already nine o'clock. Luckily its Saturday, so we wouldn't be having our run today. The room was quite excpet for Clovers snoring coming from the her room. Clover, I siged. I'd had to explain to her that Alex and I are only friends at least a dozen times. Even though the thought of his kiss made goose bumps rise all over my body.
I sigh, nothing can happen between Alex and I. I'm just not ready or at least that's what I keep telling myself. Maybe its because I'm scared that what happend to Luke would happend to someome else. Maybe I'm scared of loss.
I make my way to the kitchen, pausing at the book on the counter. Its the one I tripped over last night. The one I forgot to put back.
"The Spoils of War" is the title. Hmmm, I think, could be interesting. I have nothing better to do today anyway, maybe I'll read it.
A knock, drags me back to reality. Who could that be? We never have visitors.
I open the door, and Alex is standing there. He doesn't say anything just studies me with his hands casually in his pocket.
"Do you need something?" I say after several seconds of silence.
"I just wanted to apologize about coming on to strong last night," he says sincerely.
I think for a moment before replying,"Its okay I forgive you."
He looks relieved at that, and his face relaxes into a grin. I can't help it I'm looking at his lips. No, I tell myself sternly, you know better. I'm so concentrated on my mantra that I miss what he say next.
"What?" I ask dazed.
"I said my brothers and roommates are out for the day, so I was wondering if you might want to come watch a movie with me?"
"What movie?" I ask, and almost kick myself for it. Theres no way I can watch a movie with him innocently. I don't have the will power.
"Oblivion, " he says smiling, and All it takes is a smile. Without any hestation I give a yes.
"Great, are you ready?" He asks. I look down at my shorts, and long tee and shake my head.
"One sec," I say. I hastily pick out a lime green tank top and a pair of old blue jeans. A little eyeliner and I'm all set to go.
"Okay, I'm ready," I say.
.......................
You can tell that guys live here. A couple of old pizza boxes are laying around, and clothes scatter the floor.
"Where do you guys get all the pizza?" I ask incredulously. Since I've been the cafeteria has never served anything all the way done.
"We order out sometimes," he shrugs. He clears off a spot on the couch for me, and gestures for me too sit. I do.
The movie has already begun by the time he gets back with two bottled waters.
His tan arm is touching mine during the whole movie, which is very distracting. Every once and a while he glances at me and smiles, or remarks on something happening in the movie.
"That was awful," he states looksing at me. He was right it did definitely suck.
"The graphics were okay," I say shrugging. He stands up streaching. His shirt lifts up a little showing off his toned body. I try not to oggle it and look away, but I'm already caught because he's smirking.
"Like what you see?" He say cheekily.
"Pshhh, that flab, never," I say. He raises his eye brow at me and cocks his head to the side like a confused puppy.
He leans towards me smiling. Instead of kissing me though he puts his lips to my ear.
"You know you still have one more question?" He whispers his breathe causing me to shiver.
"Yes, " I say smirking and turning for the door.
