Portentous
To occupy himself, Seth called Peter to let him know that he also saw an eerie house. After six beeps, the call went straight to voicemail, which Seth thought to be strange as Peter always picked up his phone. He then decided to call his home.
Peter's mom picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Mrs Richards, it's Seth. Is Peter there?"
"No, Peter is not here, I thought he was with you kids."
"Um, no he's not... We all went home because soccer was cancelled."
"Oh, where could he be-"
"He's probably on his way home... Please tell him that I called when he comes back." Interrupted Seth.
"I will, Seth." Mrs Richards reassured him.
After hanging up, Seth thought it would be a good idea to call Joseph and tell him about the strange coincidence. Joseph picked up his mobile immediately.
"Mr Joseph Tisdale, how may I help you?"
"Hey, do you remember the weird house Peter told us about?"
"Yeah..."
"I think I saw it my dream too... Maybe he wasn't kidding."
"Yeah, right. I'm not gonna believe that crap."
"Crap or no crap, I'm not joking, it freaked the hell out of me." Seth defended himself.
"What did it look like? I want a description!" Joseph demanded.
"It seemed old, dark and gloomy... There was this room which only had a worn out bed and a broken wheelchair in the corner... I could faintly hear the sound of the trees rustling outside the window... It all seemed... too real... It... didn't feel like a dream at all." Described Seth with chills running down his spine as he remembered the ambience of the house.
"Really? If it's true then it's something weird... Have you talked to Peter about it?"
"I tried to call him on his phone but he didn't pick up, then when I called his apartment, his mom said that he was not there."
"Strange... He should've got home by now... and there is really no place he would have gone to without us." Said Joseph.
"Meet me at his place, I'll call him again and if no one replies we'll go on a 'Peter hunt'."
After about half an hour, Seth spotted Joseph walking towards him as he approached Peter's apartment.
"No sign of him?" Joseph asked, slightly concerned now.
"He didn't answer my calls and he wasn't at the soccer ground either."
The two looked hopefully at the blue front door ahead of them.
"You ring." Stated Joseph.
"No, you ring!" Exclaimed Seth.
"I did it last week!"
"Oh, to hell with you." Annoyed, Seth pressed the doorbell.
Mrs Richards answered the door, thinking that it would be Peter who had forgotten his keys.
"Pet-ah, boys, it's you." She sounded quite disappointed.
"Yes, sorry, we came by to see if Peter was back yet." Explained Seth.
"No, he hasn't been here... To be honest, I am starting to get quite worried. If you see him please tell him to come home immediately or at least call me so I know that he is alright."
"We will. I'm sure that he is just walking around somewhere or maybe he is playing at the arcade... We will definitely find him." Joseph tried to reassure her and he nudged Seth to play along.
"Huh- Yes, of course!" Seth was lost in his own thoughts but realised what his friend wanted him to say.
"Alright, boys..." Peter's mom nodded at them approvingly and shut the door.
"I guess we really do have to go on a Peter hunt after all..." Said Seth as they walked out of the building.
