Chapter 13- Almost to the Answers (Sophie's P.O.V.)

After I looked at the letter I texted Kyle. I said,
Where are you and mom? I have a few important questions to ask. Please come home asap. Love you!
I made sure to make it sound like I wasn't mad so they would likely come home earlier instead of hiding from me. I got some black shorts on and a purple tank top and decided to go outside for a walk. I see a moving van across the street and remember the old lady that lived there was sent to a nursing home. I see a woman and a man talking and then a girl my age walks up to the woman and starts talking to her. I love new neighbors especially since there are just a lot of old people around here, so when they have kids I get excited. I run into my house and grab the box of chocolate chip cookies left over from one of moms business meetings two days ago. I take them out of the bag and put them in a plastic container. I run up stairs and put a butterfly clip in my hair so I look more presentable. I rundown grab the cookies and walk over to greet the new neighbors. The truck just left and as I walk up I see all the boxes on their porch. The women and a boy about a year younger than me come out.
Sophie: "Hi I'm Sophie! I'm your new neighbor right across the street. I wanted to welcome you and I brought cookies." I say with a big smile. They walk up and say thank you.
Women: "Oh my dear! Thank you so much! Aren't you sweet. I'm Linda and this is Jay." Jay waves at me and winks.
I laugh.
Sophie: "I'm in my senior year. What grade are you in?" I ask smiling.
Jay: "I'm in 10th, but age doesn't matter. It's just a number." I think this boy is hitting on me but I think it's funny.
Linda: "Stop being such a flirt and get your sister." Jay rolls his eyes and goes to get his sister.
Linda: "Gabby my daughter is in her senior year to, maybe you guys can hang out some time." I nod and a girl with long legs, blue sparkling eyes and hombre hair walk out. (Her hair on top was brown and as it went to the bottom it became lighter and at the tips it was blond.) She was walking next to Jay and looked up at her mom and smiled.
It must be Gabby.
Gabby: "Hey mom, whass'up?" She turns to me and her mom introduces us.
Linda: "Sophie this is my daughter Gabby and Gabby this is the nice girl across the street that welcomed us and brought us cookies. Linda has a huge smile on. Gabby looks at me and she wears the same big smile, it's kinda cute that they have the same smile.
I call Amber to come over and we help carting boxes. The whole time Jay was following me and being a flirt.🙄high school boys, ugh.
Later me and Amber went back and I asked Gabby if she wanted to go get ice cream with us later and she said yes. It has been 3 hours and they are not back so me and Amber go to my moms work office. I see Kyle but chose to ignore him because I hear some yelling from moms office so me and Amber walk over to her office I open the door and knock the same woman that was at our door a few days ago in the nose. The women screams at me but then stops. My mom looks at her with a smirk but when she sees me she looks petrified.
