1820- New Orleans, Louisiana

It was a warm and peaceful day for Annabella to play outside with her dolls.

Annabella was giggling and talking to the dolls as she made them walk on the freshly mowed forest green lawn. The ten-year-old girl was sprawled out in a comfortable manner as she continued to play imaginary.

"Annabella!" The young pigtailed brunette immediately snapped out of her 'playing mode' and snapped her head to where her mother was.

Her mother was a beautiful woman. She was in her mid-forties with curly chestnut-brown hair and high cheekbones, emerald green eyes and a petite figure.

Victoria Walton placed both hands on either sides of her hips and gave her daughter a stern look.

Annabella felt chills run down her spine as she saw how her mother narrowed her identical green eyes at her. "How many times have I told you not to play on the grass? Your father didn't just buy that for you so you could just ruin it!" Annabella pursed her lips together; She hated getting on her mother's bad side.

"I'm sorry mother."  Willow felt herself release a long breath as she saw her mother offering a small smile. "It's fine dear, dinner is almost ready. Go get yourself cleaned up."

Annabella quickly nodded her head and collected her toys , then skipped towards the stairs of the wrap around porch.

Meanwhile, further back of the property was a young black slave who let out a small sigh as he could vaguely see his half-sister and mother entering the home.

"I dont recall of anyone telling you that you could have break!"

'SNAP!' The young slave let out a sharp cry when a burning sensation ran throug his body.

The other man just let out a cold and emotionless chuckle from watching the young slave as he tried to keep himself from crying out, when another lash was given.

'SNAP!'

"Get back to work, you filthy, good for nothing slave."

'SNAP!'

'SNAP!'

'SNAP!'

The brown haired man didn't care about the fact that he was hurting a child, who in fact happened to be his brother. He wouldn't stop; He enjoyed it too much.

"Young Master," A young feminine voice suddenly broke the tension, and the whipping eventually slowed down.

Emil turned his attention to her. She was a slave that worked inside of the house as a cook. She was one of the slaves that the family showed some respect towards. Annabella called her 'Dae.'

Day didn't look at the bleeding young boy, but kept her attention on the young master. Dae didn't look at the now bleeding young boy but kept her attention on the young master. "Madam Walton would like me to inform you that dinner is ready." She bows her head in respect, sneaking a quick peak at the young boy.

Emil made a small humming noise before sneering at the young slave and walking away with pride written all over his face as the pretty young cook follows after.

"Come on boy, come with me."

The young slave looks up and saw another slave coming to help me. He was older, beefier, gloomy eyes, grey bread and wearing a small frown. "He's not as bad as his father, but he's getting there. Hopefully, the young girl won't become like them."

The young boy shakes his head with a firm look on his face, "Annabella is different, she cares for us colour folks. She wouldn't act like em'." The other slave raised his eyebrows, but the firm look on the young boy's face didn't wave.

"Let's go." and with that, the young slave limps with the older slave further away from the house.

Night fell, but that didn't stop the young girl from sneaking out of her bedroom, down the hallways, down the stairs and towards the kitchen without making any sounds.

"Young mistress, may I ask what are you doing up?"

A loud gasp spilt from the brown haired girl, her emerald green eyes grew wide as she twisted her body to face Dae, a soft smile quickly grew on the young girl's face.

"Dae, you frightened me." Annabella placed a hand over where her heart was.

Dae couldn't help but smile at the young girl, Dae could try to escape and get to the North, but Annabella was one of the few reasons why she chose to stay.

"I'm sorry Miss, but be careful dear, don't want you to get punished." Annabella nods her head quickly as she giggles lightly. Dae knew that Annabella would sneak for the slaves, and she was concern about that, but she didn't want to lose the young girl's trust.

Annabella knew that her family has plenty of food so they wouldn't notice a loaf of bread missing plus so can food as well.

After she had taken as much as she could, Anna exits the house, sending a small smile at Dae, who held the door open for her and moved quickly towards where the slaves lived.

"Annabella" Her brother smiles brightly at the young girl as she enters the slave quarters.

She dumps the food on the piece of bedding, right in front of her brother, and the other slaves licked their lips at sight.

There was twelve other quarters on this property, filled with slaves that worked on the land, two on the opposite side of the property for the maids, butlers, cooks, and servants that worked on the inside.

"Here you all go, plus this..." and with that, she pulls out a small kitchen knife she stole from her kitchen.

"Thank you." one slave said as he took a piece of the bread and moaned at the taste as the young boy took the knife and tried to open the can with that.

The night moved quickly, within an hour or two, Annabella was saying goodbye with the collection of cans and knife in hands and said goodbye to her friend.

"I'll see you tomorrow," Annabella promises before kissing his cheek and rushing towards her home, praying to God that Dae was still there.

Her brother watches Annabella until she disappears from sight and into the pitch black night.

Many years later, a young girl's life would forever change on one fateful night.

Water surrounded her, her mother, her father and her sister. Her emerald green eyes lightened up with a sense of panicking as she gasps for breath.

She opens her mouth to try to breathe, but all so got in return was water rushing in.

"MOM!" She screams, but her voice came out inaudible. "DAD!" but the same thing happened. Her mother didn't move.

She looks to her right and saw her older sister trying to smashing out the right-side passenger side window with her elbow, but to no avail.

The green eyed girl felt dizzy and lightheaded as she reaches out towards her twin sister and tries to say their goodbyes.

Elena paused what she was doing and turned towards her sister, her brown eyes boring into green ones, both of them was scared and tired as hell. Elena was shaking her head as she watches her twin's eyes slowly grew to a close.

The young girl felt herself drifting away as Elena connected their hands together but at the same time a certain hero dives into the water.
