The car makes its way down the dirt, road, going towards the large brick building nestled into the hillside. I haven't been here in a really long time, but it still looks exactly the same. A sense of excitement comes over me, also a sense of rebelliousness as well. If my parents knew what I was doing, they would be furious.
I pull up out front and turn the car off, looking towards the front door of the bunker. Making my way out of the car with my backpack, I go over and knock on the front door to the bunker. Waiting for a moment, I soon hear footsteps behind the door before it opens up.
The surprised face of my uncle greets me as he takes me in, "Harlow? What're you doing here?"
"I uh... I was wondering if I could take you up on your offer for some books for my paper?" I ask, shifting the back on my shoulder.
"Of course, sure." He says, stepping to the side and gesturing inside.
I make my way into the bunker, looking around at the sparse space. It's the exactly the same as when I last saw it, definitely a hunter's abode. Making our way down the stairs, Uncle Sam asks, "So, how's college treating you?"
"Pretty good." I nod, reaching the bottom steps, "It's pretty different to high school, but I think I like it a lot better."
"The freedom right?" He says and I nod my head.
A smile comes to his face as he looks lost in thought, "I loved that about college, the freedom to do whatever I want when I want. Get out from under Dad's thumb."
"You didn't really get along with Granddad, did you?" I ask.
He chuckles as he rubs his hands over the scruff on his chin, "Not really. Growing up the way your Dad and I did, it wasn't really good. I fought with him a lot, the both of us not seeing eye to eye over a lot over stuff. Growing up in the life... Be glad that your Mom and Dad decided to get you guys out of it while they had the chance."
A slight wave of guilt comes over me at the mention of my parents, but I push it away as I focus on what I need to do. I clear my throat as I look towards the library, "So, what books would you recommend?"
"Uh, well..." He says, walking over as he looks towards the thousands of books, "I can think of a few that can do the trick."
We go up the steps and make our way over to the books. I dump my bag down and walk over towards him, his fingertips running over the titles. His fingers stop over one and he pulls it out, looking it over, "This one could be helpful."
A timer begins to sound from the distance and he looks back towards where the kitchen is, "Oh, I better go get that."
"Have you had lunch?" He asks and I shake my head, "No, not yet."
"You're lucky I made enough to spare." He says, smiling as he hands me the book and makes his way towards the kitchen.
He walks out of the room and I turn back towards the books, my eyes scanning over the thousands of titles. I have some memories from when I was younger and we were living here, sitting in the library while Mom, Dad and Uncle Sam and Cas were hunting. It's a little overwhelming as I look them over, so much information in their pages.
"Hope you're hungry!" I hear Uncle Sam call out from a distance.
I quickly grab one of the books and stuff it into my bag, along with the other book Uncle Sam gave me. He steps into the room and I look up, seeing him carrying in a plate of burgers.
"Thanks Uncle Sam." I say, reaching over to take it as we take a seat. We settle down into our seat seats and I take a whiff, it smell really good, "Smells awesome Uncle Sam."
