"Seriously Lance, what's with the huge group?" Nyma had her legs draped over my lap as we layed back in the grass. Our discussion on a trade for fuel had been abruptly cut off as her piercing gaze turned to mine, almost black eyes churning my latest meal.
"You know how it is, they're nice people." Her gaze didn't dull at this, the blades of grass between her fingers left crumpled as she let them fall. "I got attached, and I don't regret it. If it weren't for me, Pidge would have been eaten alive after watching his father and brother be cast into a pit of the totters. Hunk would have been trapped on his roof, left to strave," my hands worked at the clumps of grass beneath my hands as I turned away from her, "I can't just leave them. They need me."
"Do they?" At this I turned back to her, catching the glint of a silver filling as she grinned. "Anyone could have come by and saved Hunk, he would have had a few weeks before he tumbled off and became a buffet. Same for Pidge." We shared a look for a moment. "So what makes you so special?"
"I was the one to come around, that's what." She flinched away at the resolve in my voice as I pushed her legs aside. She was on her feet before me.
   "So?"
"So I was the one who was there! Me! And no one else was and it was me. That won't change." There was nothing else from her as I turned and stalked back to the truck, the need for the comfort of my friends overwhelming.

Sorry it's so short I'm just lazy and tired and wanted to get something out again for you guys oops
