The Way of Life (A Malec Fanfiction)

Alec knows the way to the library by heart. He loves books so much. Just to escape the real world and be in an universe full of joy, love and fantasy. Fantasy is his favourite genre. He has many books at home so that there is no space for new ones in his room. That means that he cab't buy new books and has to borrow them from the library.

When he arrives the Idris Book Library he enters with a huge smile on his face. It's like all the problems he has are all disappeared.

Because he is such a book nerd, it's not that easy to find a new book which he hasn't read yet. So he searches and searches until he jumps because of the voice he heard.

"I'm sorry. I didn't want to scare you. It just looked like you were searching desperate for some book. Can I help you?"
Alec turns and he sees a young man. - he seems like about 17 years old - He's pretty though, Alec thinks.

The boy has tanned skin, is about one foot smaller than Alec and he has this unique gold-green eyes. Alec doesn't know he is staring at them until the boy snaps with his fingers.

"Uh... yeah, I'm sorry. Ehh.. I-I wasn't looking for a specific book. It's just that I-I ha-have already read the most books so i-it's difficult to find a new o-one." He can't believe that he is stuttering. He doesn't do that actually.

"I see. A book addict?", the smaller boy says. "I think I can help you. I used to come here often and I nearly read all the books here. It's my favourite place." He can't say it without a smile. Alec feels some type of relieve that he isn't the only one who can't stop reading.

"So what kind of books do you like?" After a few seconds of thinking, Alec responds: "I actually like all types of books, but if I have to choose then it would be fantasy."
"Well then I have something in mind.", the boy says with a huge grin on his face.

He takes the ladder and climbs it up and picks a book from the highest shelf. The ladder seems very wobly, so without thinking, Alec grips the ladder, so that the boy wouldn't fall.

"Thank you...", he says and then realizes he doesn't know his name.
"Alec.", he tells him. "Thank you Alexander!"
Surprise is written on Alec's face. How does he know my real name?. "I guess my persumption was right?" Alec nods.
"I'm Magnus. It's nice to meet you." He reaches his hand and Alec takes it and shakes it.

"Oh I totally forgot the book!" Magnus laughs. He hands it over to the boy and Alec takes it and read the name. 'A Court Of Thorns And Roses'

"Thanks Magnus! I heard about the books but I never got the chance to read it. Well now I do."

"Look Alec I don't know if it sounds too direct but I would like to know you better. How about we stay here and get to know each other?" He asks with puppy eyes.
Alec knows that he can't resist this puppy eyes and replies: "Yeah that would be cool. I need distraction."
"Family drama?" Magnus raises an eyebrow
Alec nods "Don't even start with that." It sounded kind of harsh but the little chuckle from Alec says something different.

Magnus understands it and he won't ask about his family.

They talked for hours now. Alec knows that his name is Magnus Bane, he is 18 years old and is a freewheeling bisexual, as he says. Alec doesn't mind to tell him he's gay. Alec tells him that their parents don't understand but their siblings are very supportive. But he doesn't tell him about Alice.
They talked about different books and authors.

Alec feels so free and comfortable around Magnus, it's unbelievable. Then he decides to ask the question he had in his mind the whole time: "Do yo have a boyfriend or girlfriend?"
Alec added quickly, after he sees that Magnus is frowning: "I don't know why I'm asking. I'm sorry to ask you this personal question. I-I think I should go. It was nice to meet you."

Befor Alec can leave, a strong hand grips his. "Alec it's okay! Sit down again. I tell you. No, I don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend. My last relationship didn't end very good so I kind of closed up."

Alec lets out a breath he didn't know he was taking. He sits down again and Magnus asks him back if he has a boyfriend.

"No I don't." After a few seconds, it seems like Alec gets an overload of confident and he talks and talks: "Well there were a few boys, but either they were straight or I was too shy to ask them out. Sometimes both. It's just hard to find someone, when you know that your parents wouldn't be proud of you. And there is also this girls. Her name is Alice. She is the daughter from a freind of my mother. He is a real business man and he offers my mum to make her company famous if I marry this girl. It brought a lot of discussions between me and my parents. Today we had one too. I was so angry at them, I just couldn't be there anymore so I left and got here. I'm sorry if it gets you in an uncomfortable situation and-"

Alec is cut off by Magnus' finger on his lips.
He hushes him and says: "I understand. It's okay. You don't need to worry. Look. I don't know how it feels to have this kind of parents. But I'm here for you. Let me give you my number and when you need to talk call me. It doesn't matter about what. If you need an advice for your parents or you have a fashion problem, which you definitely have,call me. Anytime, anyday."

A little bit offended, Alec nods and then he realizes he didn't bring his phone with him.
"Well write your number on my arm. I forgot my phone at home." He rolls up his grey sweater, whis was used to be black. Manus takes his pen from his bag and writes down his number.

"It was really nice to meet you. But I have to go now. Goodbye, Alexander." Alec actually hates it when someone calls him Alexander, but when Magnus does it, it sounds so natural and comforting, it doesn't bother him at all.

"Goodbye Magnus.", he quickly says before he sees Magnus leaving.
