The Way of Life (A Malec Fanfiction)

How was life?

Max is awake. This three words are in both Alec's and Izzy's heads the whole time. Magnus drives as fast as he can, without getting in trouble.

They arrive the hospital and Magnus looks for a parking lot. "You can go in. I'll be there as soon as I parked."

Alec and Izzy leave and go (or run) upstairs. Before the door stands Dr. Carstairs. He shakes hand with both. "You can go in, but don't rush him. He's very unstable."

Alec and Izzy nod. They enter the room and Max is sitting on his bed. When he sees his siblings he grins from ear to ear. "Alec! Izzy!"

They get into a group hug and all three are fighting with tears right now.

"How are you feeling?" Alec asks. He grabs two chairs and puts them next to Max' bed.

Max reaches for the water and drinks. "Healing, I guess."

"Happy belated birthday." Izzy says. His birthday was two months ago. "We bought you something."

She hands him a little box. He opens it and in it is a bracelet. Actually there are four. "I don't think that I have four arms guys." He jokes.

"You definitely didn't lose your sense of humor." Izzy chuckles. "It's for all of us." She takes two and gives one Alec.

There is 'Lightwood' engraved. "We wanted to wear it at the same time you could."

Max smiles softly. "Thank you guys, it's amazing." They put it on their left hand. "Ok, we have a lot to catch up. Izzy start."

Izzy tells him how she broke up with Meliorn because they didn't fit. How she became cheerleader captain. How they met Simon and Clary.

"Where is Jace?" Max cuts in. He admires Jace. "And where are Mom and Dad?"

Alec and Izzy exchange a look. "Mom and Dad had to leave because of work. They will be here next Monday."

"Ok. And Jace?" Max asks again.

Alec's eyes soften. "I don't know. We called him, but I guess he's sleeping at Simon's."

After some silence Max speaks up again. "Ok, Alec your turn. What happened while I was asleep."

Alec tells him everything. With full honesty. "Mom and dad want me to marry. A businiess marriage. Both companies benefit from it. I don't want to, though."

Max grabs Alec's hand. "I can't believe that they are forcing you."

Alec tells him about Robert and his aggressive behavior.

"Is he serious? How could he do this to you?" Max is so angry, he could break a thing or two.

Alec tries to calm him down. "Max, calm down. You don't need this right now. And besides, it seems pretty bad. But I had a rock in this whole time."

Alec and Izzy smiles at that. Max just looks confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Let's just say that our not so little brother has grown up."

Max understood. "Who? How long? Oh my god, Alec. You finally have a boyfriend. Took you long enogh."

"Ha ha." Alec snaps. "His name is Magnus. I guess I can tell you about him. But actually he's here. He parked the car. I go and search him."
