Chapter 6- Why me?

"So, how was your sleep, Cammy?" Ysabelle asked her sister as they had breakfast. Cammy stopped eating and looked to her brother. Carter gave her a comforting smile and nodded.

"It happened again." Carter said and everyone at the table stopped eating to stare at Carter and Cammy. Ysabelle and Marie had worried expressions on their faces while Sander and Cammy's dad, Richard had confused expressions on their faces.

"Cammy, I thought we talked about this. It's all in your head." Marie told her daughter but Cammy remained quiet. Ysabelle and Carter shared a look before Carter spoke up.

"No, mom. I think it's true. Can't you see that she's clearly bothered?" Carter asked while gesturing to his sister.

"Wait a minute. What are you talking about? What has your sister bothered?" Richard asked his son. Carter looked at his father seriously and gave Cammy's hand a squeeze.

"Dad, Cammy thinks that someone is in her room with her." Carter told his dad. Richard's expression was unreadable. He too, has had a few unexplained experiences in Camny's room but being the fearless man he is, he dismissed any supernatural explanation.

"Cammy, it's probably just your imagination." Richard told his daughter. Cammy looked up sharply with the look of hurt evident in her eyes. Cammy was a daddy's girl so it hurt that her dad didn't believe her.

"But Daddy, I'm telling the truth. Someone is disturbing me in my room." Cammy whined and Richard looked at his daughter's distraught face. She was a teenager, he thought. She was probably going through a phase.

"No. It's just your imagination, princess. End of discussion." Richard told his daughter sharply and he walked out of the dining room. Sander and Marie also excused themselves to clean up the kitchen so that left the three siblings alone around the table.

"Cammy, why do you think it wants you?" Ysabelle asked her sister and Cammy shrugged indefinitely.

"I have no idea. I can't think of a reason why. All I know is I had that dream and then these things started happening to me." Cammy babbled.

"It's probably just looking for someone to play with. Unfortunately, we don't know why it chose you." Carter concluded and Ysabelle looked deep in thought.

"Why me? Why of all people? Why did it choose me?" Cammy cried and Ysabelle went to her sister to give her a hug.

"You just have to be strong, Cammy. You have to believe that it'll go away soon. You have to show it that you are not afraid." Ysabelle told her sister and Cammy wished that she was right because she felt that she was starting to lose her mind bit by bit.

Cammy opened her eyes and found herself facing the wall as usual. She turned around to see her brother sleeping beside her. She tried to wake her brother up.

"Carter. Wake up. It happened again." Cammy told her brother and Carter's eyes shot open.

"Did you check the time?" Carter inquired while rubbing the sleepiness away from his eyes. Cammy shook her head.

"No, why should I? I already know that it's time. He's already here." Cammy said and looked back at the wall. She was right. He was already there. Just sitting. Taunting.

"Carter, this is the last night you'll sleep in my room. Understand?" Cammy asked her brother and Carter frowned in confusion.

"But why?" Carter asked in bewilderment. Cammy sighed and looked back to the shadow.

"Because I need to show him that I am not afraid." she said sharply toward the demon. She even saw the demon tilt it's head slightly to the side as if he was challenging Cammy.

"Okay. If you say so. Are you sure?" Carter asked his sister worriedly. Cammy nodded and laid back down.

"I'm sure. Now go to sleep. I'll deal with this tomorrow." Cammy established and with that Carter shut up and fell asleep. Cammy followed suit but not before she gave the demon a challenging look that said, "Bring it on."
