I ran towards Eddie. His shoulder was covered in blood. I guided him slowly as he faced the pain. We approached the police car and more police started approaching. My family and Carly got in another car while we approached the police men carrying bandages. He quickly covered Eddie's wound and rode the car. I heard shots of gun hitting the car but none of them got inside. Police cars were intentionally made for this.
The car in front of us turned right towards the police station while we turned left preferably heading to the hospital. St. Luke's Hospital. I read the sign aloud. He parked the car and medical personels started approaching us carrying stretchers. One of them opened the door and slowly took Eddie and placed him in the stretcher.
He was brought to the Emergency room while I just sat in the waiting area. I kept on hoping Eddie's just fine. He was only hit in the shoulder. But I can't be sure enough. 20 minutes had already passed. I looked at the door and the door opened.
"Doctor, what happened?" I frantically stood up and asked him.
"He's okay now. We will just transfer him in a normal room."
Eddie was still asleep in a stretcher the nurses were pushing it towards room 12 and I followed. The nurses placed Eddie on the bed and left. I sat beside him and started stroking his hair. It was all my fault after all. I started to feel tears rolling down my cheeks. I was expecting a miracle to make my life better but instead I got something to make it worse. I glanced at the symbol on the back of my hand. Why me? Of all the people. Why me?
I felt someone hold my hand. It was Eddie. I wiped my tears with my other hand and hugged him.
"Thank God. You're awake," I said.
"It was not your fault. It was this's. I've learned about what happened." He brushed the symbol with his finger.
"I know. It doesn't matter. What matters is that you are awake and looking fine." I smiled.
"I will always protect you even in the cost of my life." He held my face with his hand. Thanks Eddie but I won't try and get you into any more trouble.
I felt my face getting near to his. I leaned in and gave him a kiss. He weakly kissed me back and I sat down again. It was not the passionate first kiss I dreamed of having but still I had it with the person I love. The door opened and a nurse came in bringing a tray of food. Luckily, she didn't entered while we were kissing or that would be not-so-cool. She placed the tray in the table and left.
"You can have it, I'm not hungry," Eddie said.
"What are you saying silly. The food is prepared and made according to the nutrients you need and not mine."
I grabbed the soup. Mushroom and Chicken Soup. Not bad. I assisted him in eating even if I know that he can eat on his own. He can leave the hospital this afternoon. I had already explained to his parents what happened and after Eddie's recovery we have to explain to the police. Too much explanation, I guess. I just hope they will believe us.
After finishing his food. I took a quick nap till the Doctor and his parents rushed inside. Eddie's all fine now. The bullet's been removed. Luckily, it didn't break a bone or anything. The doctor assisted him in getting up and his parents hugged him. Mr. and Mrs. Michaels were not angry at me. They understood that I need Eddie's help.
Carly came inside too. I hugged her tightly.
"Your family's fine now," she said.
"Where are they?"
"At the police station. They need us there right now."
I looked at Eddie. He looks fine enough but still I doubt the doctors nor his parents would let him go. Because he insisted, there was nothing they can do. They gave all of us a change of clothes and we headed to the police station.
