Jesse’s POV.
After having a couple of days to cool off I return to my pack. Yes, they are now MY pack.
Walking through the pack houses front door I am greeted with the chaos of an unorganised household.
I take a deep breath and then address the chaos.
“Could everyone stop what they’re doing please, I would like everyone’s attention.”
I pause, waiting for my words to sink in, before continuing.
Silence falls upon everyone and movement halts, all eyes on me.
“I am reclaiming my rights as Alpha, from now on Luke is no longer your Alpha.” I speak out clearly. “A gathering will be held to finalize these decisions. Please go about your day as usual.”
I am acknowledged with formal bows all-round. Urgh.
The rest of the day consisted on going through paper work and catching up on any missed information that was only available to the a packs Alpha.
I also began planning this evening’s ritual. The quicker it’s out of the way, the sooner my wolf can settle down.
As alpha of another pack must also attend along with his Luna and Beta, I was in need of an Alpha. Mr Finch.
I look through the neatly organised address book on my desk in search of his number.
Ah ha!
Here it is.
Typing in his number I press the call button. Only two rings later and a gruff voice answers.
“Hello.”
“Hello Sir, this is Jesse Wolfe of the Wolfe Grey pack, I would be honoured if you could attend and bear witness to the hands changing of our pack. I am to become Alpha.”
“I must check with both my wife and Beta before I agree. I will contact you shortly with my answer so have details ready and waiting just in case.”
“Thank you Sir, good day.” I hang up.
Right, best finalize everything.
[Luise, if you are not busy could you please come see me in the office] I call out through the mind link.
Moments later there is a knock. “You may come in Luise.”
Luise comes in with her head lowered, eyes cased down. God I hate that.
“Please raise your head; there is no need for any of that. I would like to apologise for not coming to find you, I’m swamped with work and mind link was easiest.” I gesture to the desk and give a nervous smile.
“Sorry Sir, it is ok.” She mumbles.
“Please to god stop with this Sir lark now.” I chuckle. “My name has and will always be Jesse. There is no need to act differently towards me now.”
“Yes Sir. I mean Jesse.”
“I called you in here to ask if you could prepare a banquet for after tonight’s ritual, then you and Nora and Sally can have the rest of the week off.”
Her eyes widen. “But Sir! The pack will have no food.” I let the ‘Sir’ slide this time.
“I believe you ladies deserve a break and I also think that our pack mates can manage to cook their own meals, those unable to will be assigned an able member of the pack.” I had been thinking about that for a while when look led us all, he wouldn’t have listened to my ideas back then. I’d even helped out in the kitchen multiple times with the ladies and knew first hand that it was time consuming and tiring. “I also know that you don’t get enough time with your grandchildren.”
“Thank you Jesse, thank you.” She smiles tears forming in her eyes.
“You’re very welcome. I should be the one thanking you as you have helped so much over the years.” She had being helping around the pack house ever since my parents died; she had also been like my mother and father all in one.
After giving me one last teary grin she excuses herself to go prepare for tonight.
That’s one task partly done as I can partner the youngsters and elderly up with adult member’s tomorrow morning.
My next task is to choose a Beta, I can’t take place as Alpha without my best friend by my side.
[Noah, please come to my office.]
[Sure thing sweet cheeks.] Came the reply as I rolled my eyes. At least he’s still treating me as an equal.
Once he arrived he let himself into the office without waiting to be invited in, this is why this guy was my best friend. I was and will never be treated any differently due to my heritage
“Sup dude?” He asked, concerned.
“I was wondering if you’d like to be my Beta?” I ask looking down at my hands nervously.
Silence.
That is all I receive from him.
I look up to see him grinning like a fool.
“Don’t leave me hanging, is that a yes?”
“Of course it is bro!!” He comes over to me and pulls me into a man hug, tapping me on the back with his hand.
And so it began, I told him about all he’d missed and needed to know as Beta. Even the details only Alphas know, I can’t leave my bro in the dark. We even went on to discuss changes we were going to make around the pack and I filled him in on what I’d said to Luise about getting everyone to fend for themselves.
Luise came into the office at one point bringing us both foods to nibble while we worked. She even had a few ideas of her own; one being weekly cooking lessons with the cubs to teach them basic cooking skills. Noah and I were her number one fans of the idea.
“Right, it’s time for you to have a word with Luke and Susie. Don’t you dare try getting out of it!” Noah’s stern voice scolds as I go in for an excuse.
“But...”
“No buts! You guys need to sort your crap out, we both know Susie wouldn’t cheat and you can’t just choose your mates either. You’re destined to be with someone else and I know you always knew it.”
“I don’t want anyone else, I wanted her!” I growl.
“Don’t growl at me pup, you think you want her. But I’m sure your wolf disagrees.”
My eyes brighten much to my annoyance, my wolf showing his agreement.
“Like I said, your wolf knows best. So start bloody listening to him!” He scolds again. “Your parents wouldn’t be pleased with you ignorance would they?”
“I know, I know.” They always used to remind me that my wolf would give me guidance if they were never around to ask.
“I best be off, I’m starved.”
“You only just ate Noah!” I chuckle.
“Mans gotta eat.” He grins.
