The Kiss
[Third person's POV]From Mui Ne, the guys headed for Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The journey from Mui Ne to Hanoi by train took about 30 hours, plus a stop at Binh Thuan to change train. They knew it was a crazy journey. 30 hours just on train? Flight would be faster, just around two hours from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi. However, given that they were travelling with quite a flexible schedule, it was best to avoid taking flight when necessary. Therefore, they had agreed to take either bus or train from Saigon to Hanoi since the beginning. And they were glad that they didn't buy flight tickets since the detour to Mui Ne might have clashed with the flight time.
Bank had decided to stay back at Mui Ne for a few more days. His reason was he wanted to explore the place more. But the truth was, he wanted to spend more time with a girl he had met during barbecue dinner. Perhaps, he did have intention to explore something else. Kit had noticed sullen expression from Beam after learning that Bank had separated from their group. Kit had no full idea of what was going on but he had a feeling that Beam might have a crush on Bank. It was quite obvious; spending time together and tailing Bank anywhere that guy went. It was not hard to tell.
However, the most frustrating thing that happened on the train was, he stuck with Ming. That damn cheeky annoying handsome brat! Kit was at the verge of hopping off from the train rather than being inside the same cubicle with Ming but his sane mind prevented him from acting childish. Kit perfectly understood Phana and Wayo were sharing cubicle but he didn't understand why Forth decided to share with Beam. Since when Forth and Beam were that close? Kit was left puzzling about that and in exasperation about Ming.
But it turned out not to be that bad. Kit was unsure why Ming suddenly became too nice and tried not to get on his nerve. Plus, Ming didn't even touch on the kiss which he was glad. He was not ready to indulge in that matter, yet. Better not to discuss about it at all, Kit contemplated. Well, he still talked harshly with the younger man for no clear reason but he began to see another side of Ming. A very caring and attentive Ming. It was something new for Kit. All this time, Kit had been knowing Ming as a damn annoying brat. But 30 hours on the train, sharing the same cubicle, it was an eye-opener. How Ming had constantly asked if he was hungry or having carsick (which he didn't) or whether the temperature was too cold or to warm. Ming even bought snack which are less sugars, less salt and less oil, just because his concern of getting fat. How thoughtful! But of course he won't admit all of those. It would be a taint on his tsundere ego.
They all reached Hanoi around noon and took taxi to their hostel, Hanoi Roll Hostel. They only had about half day to go around the city since the next morning they would depart to Halong bay which took another five hours journey. Hanoi Roll Hostel was okay, except for the party-craze foreigners that stayed in the same dorm as them. It was a custom for Thais and most Aseaners to take off their shoes or footwear before entering the house or room. However, the other guests seemed not to get the notes, so they had to wear their shoes to their beds. Plus, the loud music from the dance floor on the ground floor at night was blaring into the room since the door was being opened and closed frequently as the other tenants coming in and out. In addition to that, unwanted making love session in the dorm. It was an eye sore. Despite all of the above, this hostel provided the fastest wifi internet they ever experienced. A 45 minute episode of Love Sick in less than 5 minutes! It was heaven!
Nothing much they managed to do in Hanoi. Besides the infamous Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and museum, they also went to stroll around the well-known Hoan Kiem lake which was about one kilometer from their stay. Nearby the Hoan Kiem lake, there were the legendary turtle tower, Ngoc Son temple and the oldest center of education, Temple of Literature. They ended their half day city tour by spoiling themselves with local Vietnamese cuisine in one of the local restaurant. Since the winner of the race in Saigon didn't get to claim their prize, everyone agreed to treat them for dinner. And somehow, splurging with delicious food elated both Beam and Forth moods since they left Mui Ne. And Wayo was acting extremely shy around Phana which raised suspicious in Ming.
