During the second week of winter break, Ace brought me to the animal shelter to pick out the kitty he promised me for Christmas. We walked into the kitty section and I awed at the sight. Then he showed me one of the new ones.

"No wonder you can't stop thinking of me." I remarked. They look just like me. Well, if I were a cat." He laughed then picked up the runt of the litter. "Aww! They're so small!" I cooed. The cat looked like it could fit in the palm of my hand and had white fur over covering his paws.

"'They' is a he." Ace informed. I smiled.

"He's so small!" I corrected. "I just want to cuddle him to death!" He laughed again and handed the kitty over to me. I held the kitty close to my chest and started petting his fuzzy head.

"You look cute holding an animal." He absentmindedly pointed out. I looked up at him and smirked.

"Do I?" I stated, kissing the top of the kitty's head.

"Yeah. Hey, are you looking for a job?" I shrugged.

"I guess. I haven't really thought about getting one." My eyes narrow. "Why?"

"Because there's an opening and you look really hot holding a baby animal." I laughed at the comment but nodded.

"Okay. I guess I can work here." I walked closer to him and whispered in his ear. "If that means I get to spend more time with you." His cheeks turned a bright red as he nodded.

"You can start filling out the paperwork to work here while I go and fill out the adoption papers for you." Ace said then we went our separate ways. I filled out a job application as I talked to the lady working at the desk. She seemed really sweet.

"It's good to see Ace this happy, he hasn't been this happy since he first started out." She told me. I looked up and smiled before realizing something.

"He wasn't depressed or anything was he?" I asked softly. She shook her head.

"Oh heavens no! The only scars he has are from his parents." I nodded and continued filling out the application. Ace walked over a minute later.

"One, you need a name for the little guy. And two, do you have the collar I gave you?" I nodded.

"Yes!" I responded as I fished the collar out of my sweatshirt pocket, this was the actual gift he got me. When I grabbed it I handed it over to Ace. "How about Boots?" I suggested.

"You want to name your cat Boots?" I nodded.

"Why not?" He laughed, shaking his head slightly, and filled the rest of the form out. I continued filling mine out then handed it to the lady working at the desk.

"This is what you were filling out?!" She asked, looking over the form. "Oh sweetie, you've got the job!"

"Really?!" I asked, astounded.

"Of course! Ace's work has improved during the two months you've been dating and having you here will be an amazing experience for all of us. You've got the job." She repeated. I smiled warmly.

"Thank you." Ace walked me over to the machine to get the tag. It was a little heart charm that had all the information on it.

When we were done adopting the little kitty, we climbed into the car and started going home. Boots had curled up into my sweatshirt pocket to keep warm.

"How are we going to do this?" I asked. He glanced to me. "Are you going to take me to work?" He chuckled.

"Yeah. I'll take you to work when school's done and I'll bring you home when your shifts over." I kissed his cheek. He smirked.

"Thanks, honey."

"No problem." When we got home Ace walked in with me and everyone sorta looked around us for the kitten.

"You didn't get a kitten?" Mom asked. I smiled before saying anything.

"No, I did. Boots is just shy." When I said his name he stuck his head out of my pocket. I patted his fuzzy little head. He purred softly. I smiled.

"You named him Boots?" Tyler asked. I nodded. He rolled his eyes with a smile.

"Yes. Do you have a problem with that?" He shot his hands up in a surrender type way.

"No." He stated. "You're just a dork." I rolled my eyes and smiled back at him. Josh elbowed him and whispered something in his ear. I raised an eyebrow. Tyler shook his head and glared at Josh. I shrugged.

"Aren't you forgetting something, sweetheart?" Ace reminded me, walking in with some of Boots' stuff. Tyler rolled his eyes, his smile dropping.

"I got a job too!" I exclaimed. "I'm gonna work with Ace at the animal shelter."

"That's great." Clint said and I nodded. Ace went out and grabbed the rest of Boots' things. I put the bowl in the kitchen, the litter box in the corner, a couple of his toys in a box underneath the coffee table, and his bed in my room. When I was done putting everything away, I kissed Ace goodbye.

"Love you." He told me.

"Love you too." I said as he walked away. I turned to face everyone else, carefully taking Boots out of my pocket so he could see the room. "Boots, say hi."

"Meow." He said. I giggled. Tyler walked up and patted his head. "Meow." Boots repeated, much softer than the first time. I smiled at Tyler as he continued petting the kitten.

"Looks like he likes you." I remarked. Tyler looked up at me and smiled. I kissed his cheek. He bit his lip and looked back down at Boots.

"Well I like you too, Boots."
