Okay, this one always really bothers me. James only changed/matured for Lily.

That's not true- that takes away from James's character, from who he is as a person.

There was a war rising, the world was getting more and more dangerous. Everyone was realizing that this wasn't some joke, or something to be taken lightly. They were realizing that it was time to decide where their loyalties lie- and that they were going to have to grow up a whole lot sooner than they thought. Because they were going to have to fight.

Lily happened to be someone who helped James to see that what he was doing was wrong- that doesn't mean she's the sole reason he matured.

He matured because he was sorry for what he did, he realized that hexing others because he could didn't make him "cool." He knew it was time to grow up. Because the people in his life mattered more than popularity, more than himself and what he thought was fun. Times were getting much more serious.

It was time to decide what, or rather, who, was important to him, and to hold on tight and not let those people go. It was time that he focused on what was important- fighting in the war against Voldemort, protecting those who needed to be protected, and helping the younger kids in school. Because of that, he was even made Head Boy.

But don't try to tell me that he only matured for Lily. Just because that's what drew her to him, doesn't mean that was his reason.

He changed because that's what was right.
