Chapter 7

*ALISSA GREEN*

Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. I’ve been breathing in and out since this morning. I don’t want to go to school but I have to. I stayed at the day care and talked with Rob for a while. He was nice to know that I need someone to talk to. I went to school earlier avoiding my neighbors. I saw the school gate and my anxiety is up to the highest level. I silently prayed before going in, I pressed my hands together and closed my eyes.

I whispered. “God, please don’t let us meet….let him have some appointments or something…just not today…” I was still praying when someone patted my back that made me squeak.

“What are you doing here?” Jordan said.

I took a deep breath. “You scared me…don’t do that.” I said and punched him on the shoulder.

“Ow! Geez…what’s up with you?” He said.

“You scared me…”

“Whatever….you’re gonna be late of you stay there.” He said running away from me.

I stayed there for a few minutes before going in. I tried texting Tracie but she hasn’t replied to any of my messages. That reminds me; Eric didn’t come home last weekend. But he texted mom that he was at a friend’s house with some problem or something. I shrugged and continued my way to my classroom but my eyes are very vigilant. The cost is clear.

“Morning Ali…” Marie greeted.

“Morning. Have you seen Tracie?” I asked.

“Nope…she’s not at practice either.”

I shrugged for the second time this morning. I’ll just check on her later. Our teacher came in and it was the start of a long day.

Lunch time and still no Tracie but on the brighter side, no Mr. Daniels and strange enough, no Shane either. Where are they? I saw Troy, one of Eric’s friends and decided to ask him about my brother.

“Hey…” I said and smiled at him.

“Hey Ali, what’s up?”

“Uhm… have you seen my brother?”

Troy wrinkled his forehead. “Nope, I haven’t seen him since last Friday. Why? Is something wrong?” He asked with concern in his facial expression. They’ve been friends with my brother since forever.

“Oh, nothing’s wrong…thanks.” I said and left him the other boys.

My heart was pounding hard again when I saw the clock…the afternoon class is fast approaching. I slowly walked pass the hallways feeling my feet walked so heavily. I peeked to my math classroom and there’s no Mr. Daniels yet. I went to my chair and sulked praying again.

We heard a knock on the door and found a student assistant. I felt relief.

“Is this Mr. Daniels Math class?”  The student asked.

“Yeah…” A boy said at the back.

“He’s not going to be around for this meeting.” I heard some hissed from the girls and some yells of “YES” from the boys. Wow, my prayer was actually granted. Thank God. “But may I know who Alissa Green is?” She asked.

I raised my eyebrow. And someone pointed me, the student approached me and handed me an envelope. Another loud tease from my class was heard.

“For me?” I asked.

“Mr. Daniels said to give it to you. He said it was very important.” She said and left.

The girls were staring at me with murderer’s eyes so I decided to save my life and walked out of the room first. I went to the parking lot and went in the car. Why would he ask to give it to me in class? Is he crazy?
