I push my hand onto the big metal bar on the door. As it opens, more and more faces begin to reveal. All of them beginning to laugh and snicker. You would think that since I'm homeless, I wouldn't go to school, but, I want an education.
Unlike my useless parents I want to do something that benefits the world. Sometimes my depression can get in the way of that, and that's okay. I try my best to get through it. But sometimes, I can't take anymore. I have anxiety attacks so bad that I scrunch to the floor crying and shaking.
I scanned the hall from side-to-side seeing every face laughing and shouting out dumb names. But in my observation, there was a certain face. A face that wasn't laughing. That wasn't making fun of me. Grayson Hall. The town's bad boy. His eyes were grazing every inch of my body. And, if I'm not crazy, I'd even say he was slightly smiling. It was like a smirk. I couldn't help but let out a small sigh of happiness. Actual happiness.
Happiness that I haven't felt in years. When the bell rings, I see everyone scatter into a dozen different doors. But Grayson continues to stare. So do I. We were both just staring at one another on two far sides of the hallway.
He starts forward at me as I begin to shake. In less than a few seconds, he was standing just a couple feet away. I press my books closer to my chest. He looked down at my tightened arms and smirked. Without saying a word, he took them away, and walked in the opposite direction.
"Hey! Doofus! Those are my books," I shouted. "Give them back!"
"Are you trying to be late?" Grayson asked with a coarse chuckle. His voice went low when he said 'trying'. It sent so many shivers down my spine.I cleared my throat, not letting him know he got to me. "Well?"
"Well, what?" He smiled.
I couldn't manage to get any words out after that. I was speechless when I realized that the town's bad boy was showing kindness. And to me? This had to have been some kind of sick joke his friends put him up to.I walk past him, not looking back. I didn't even care that I'd just completely abandoned my books.
I could feel a smirk from his direction.
