None of this shit was sitting right with him. Rick was about to hand over Michone to get butchered by the Governor. He was pulling Merle into it, when Daryl was hoping that his brother could stay out of trouble for awhile. This governor wasn't going to hold up his end of the deal anyway. Daryl wanted to be wrong about that, but his experiences in life had taught him otherwise. The other shoe was always going to drop.

Then there was Beth. What the hell was he going to do about Beth? Daryl had realized that this Milton that kept all kinds of records might know which month it was. Hell, the guy even knew what day it was. The only part of it that concerned Daryl was that there were four months until November. It might as well have been four years, because he wasn't going to make it until Beth's birthday.

He didn't know why it even mattered to him. It wasn't like anybody was going to arrest him for having sex with her because she wasn't eighteen. Yet it still bothered him, since he had always picked up women before, not jailbait. No matter what anyone had thought of him, he wasn't a creep. Now, however, he was very close to giving in to his desire for Beth. Considering how far he had already gone with her, it wouldn't be long before they went all the way. Every time she showed him how much she enjoyed his touch, it made him want her even more.

Her contradictions made her irresistible to him. There was a wide range in her behavior between sweet and sexy. Here she was just one guy away from being a virgin, but she gave him a damn porno peep show. She was so fucking horny for him that she had to get herself off twice before she could fall asleep. Just thinking about that made him want to go tear her clothes off. He would have thought that she was just looking for some action, but she had already fixated on him back at the farm when she had a young guy with lots of stamina to give her what she wanted. Every time he thought she couldn't get any hotter, she proved him wrong. Then she was also a sweetheart with her concern for his safety.

She cared about him, which was another reason not to get involved with her. Daryl wasn't one for emotional attachments, especially now when they were all in constant danger. One of these days he was likely not to make it back when he walked out the door. What would she do then? She had already fallen apart once before at the farm, and now it was even more important for her to stay strong. As much as he told himself to stay away from her, he was drawn to her like a magnet. It didn't help that she was always seeking him out.

Beth found him in the guard tower the day they got back from the meeting with the Governor. It was already evening when he went on watch.

"I'm glad you're back," she said softly.
