Lucy's P.O.V
I sighed as I put my clothes on. I can never stay mad at him for too long. I quickly put on my clothes: a sabrina sweatshirt, shortalls, and my trusty ol' chucks.
I went out of my room and saw Natsu wasn't there. As I grabbed my things, I heard Natsu yell from the bottom of the stairs.
"Lucy, speed up! We're gonna be late!" Ooh. He means business. He only calls me when he's serious.
I grabbed the last things and ran downstairs. I dashed by the room and called out my goodbyes.
"See you, Mr. and Mrs. H. Good Luck, Gray." Natsu hurriedly said. In about a minute, N and I were madly dashing down the street.
However, not being the athlete that Natsu was, I had to stop running to catch my breath halfway to the bus stop.
When Natsu saw me, he turned around to walked back to where I was slouched over.
I was panting and could barely speak. "You're such a weakling," he sighed.
"Can't help it," I said, in between gasps. "It's in the blood." He raised his eyebrows.
"Oh, is it?" he laughed. He grabbed my hand to pull me up. I panicked. I didn't know what to do.
He was holding my hand. Natsu Dragneel was holding my hand. It was fine, we're best friends after all.
This is normal, I know. But to me, now especially, it feels strange. Because I'm in love with him.
There, the cat was out of the bag. It's your usual unrequited love story, but it's happening to me, and my hormones are all over the place.
Now, on my hand, especially. Yes, I'm in love with my bestfriend who certainly is a jock.
He's good looking and is one of the most popular guys in school. As I much as I hate to admit it, he has a girlfriend.
And just as you would you expect, a cheerleader. Typical high school love story, I know.
I'm the exact opposite. I'm not a cheerleader, nor do I consider myself remotely beautiful.
Popular? Good luck with that. I'm the butt of the popular clique's jokes. But for one thing, I don't really care if I never become popular.
What I hate about this entire set up is the fact that most people won't stop reminding me of how different my best friend is from me, and how we shouldn't be friends.
Good thing Natsu's not like that. He has never blown me off. "Not everyone'd a jock," I explained, my face red from both running and blushing profusely.
"You know, if you put your energy into running rather than speaking, we might actually make it to the bus stop on time." said Natsu.
"Fine." I grumbled. I was too distracted by his hand that was firmly clasping mine.
We made it to the bus in time. We were out of breath when we got to our usual seats.
Natsu didn't mind sitting with me and going to school on the bus. He said he likes the kids in the bus.
The kids here always smiles at him. But seriously, who wouldn't? He's the basketball hero at school.
Unfortunately, the bus ride doesn't last that long. "Natsu Dragneel is here." yelled someone the moment we got off the bus.
In an instant, he was surrounded by his usual crowd while I got pushed off to the sidelines, literally.
I sighed and walked past them. This is a yearly scene, and I was used to it. After not seeing Natsu for a whole summer, people at school missed him.
It's hard not to be annoyed at how they act. I mean, come on! Natsu's just a regular guy who just happened to be a great basketball player.
Besides, do they even know him for real? Or did they just like what they see?
"Hey, Lu-chan!" exclaimed a voice I'd recognize anywhere. Levy. Levy is blessed with half-Japanese and half-Latina features, with short blue hair and light blue eyes.
We walked side by side all the way to our lockers across the hallway, where Natsu's locker was located.
"So..." started Levy while I put my books in my locker. "How's your summer with Natsu?"
Levy was the only one who knows what I truly feel for Natsu. Since then, she has this look she give me when she's trying to tell something but can't, out loud.
This look means that Lissana, Natsu's girlfriend, is within proximity.
"If you can call being forcefully woken up fun, then yeah, it was." I shrugged.
Levy gave me a sad smile. "You can drop that act with me." she said kindly.
I sighed. "Yeah, I'm sorry, Levy-chan." I paused. "I had fun-seriously. I always do whenever I'm with him. This summer feels like old time, especially. Before all this high school drama. It was just plain fun." Levy beamed at me for a few seconds.
I looked over my shoulder and glanced at Natsu. He was now with his buddies, Sting and Gajeel.
Natsu caught my eye and smiled. I stuck my tongue out at him like a little kid.
This got him laughing, making Sting stare at him curiously while Gajeel glanced at my direction.
I hastily faced Levy again just in time to see her give me the look. Lissana must be near.
Of course, her boyfriend was here. I turned around, not eager to see how much more she has turned into a witch after the summer.
I groaned at the sight of her. Her white hair shone under the sun. She was in a micromini denim skirt and a tight-fitting sweater.
She looked more and more like a witch each day. Nice. Lissana slithered up next to Natsu, and Natsu stopped laughing but was slightly grinning.
When Lissana got close enough, she kissed him square in the lips. It was suddenly difficult to breath, like all oxygen was vacuumed out of the hallway.
Lissana continued to kiss Natsu in front of me-and, mid-kiss, Lissana cracked her right eye open, just to check if I was still looking.
She was showing the whole school that she owns him. It was clear in his eyes that Natsu was taken by surprise.
The first period bell brought everyone back to reality. Levy grabbed my hand and pulled me to homeroom.
Welcome to high school: senior year edition. Great.
