This story is a contribution story between me and my friend. We each have a character that we have created specifically for this. I'm not going to say what kind of story this is, but I know there is going to be lots of action, adventure, and a little bit of romance.
~Celine~
I looked out past the glass dome that surrounded me overhead. There, so far out of reach, were the stars. Somehow, whenever I looked out at their twinkling lights, they seemed to beckon me; calling me to reach out and touch them. I ached to be upon them, to travel amongst their lights and just get lost within them, but I knew why I couldn't.
I looked down at the dark metallic streets that stretched beneath me. Faces of despair walked along, mixing in with faces of hope, of terror. We were all brought here for one reason.
The Galra Empire.
Even just thinking about it sent shivers down my spine. I could only imagine the terrible things the Empire does under the rule of Zarkon, could only imagine the pain that was brought in his wake. I never wanted to know the pain; never wanted to feel the fear of losing everything that I cared about and knew.
But that was why Refuge was created, for those who had to flee. To become a home to those who lost everything under the Empire.
Refuge was a cluster of makeshift shelters protected by a glass barrier that kept us hidden from Galra warships. It was nestled upon an asteroid that seemed to always move, never staying in one place for too long. Refugees were guided to the asteroid, looking for a new place to call home.
I dropped down to the alleyway, allowing its shadows to consume me. Dim lights illuminated the street as different kinds of aliens walked by, going about their business, no one paying attention to the girl in the shadows.
I lifted the hood of my jacket up over my head as I stepped deeper in the darkness, the orange tinge slowly disappearing.
Each of the shelters were created with space between them at their back. Not a lot of people knew about the passage's existence, but those who did knew of the risks.
When the orange of the street finally faded away, there was only a moment before I was bathed in a new green illumination. To my right, a withering alien stepped from the shadows, holding a lantern of green glowing moss within.
"The Galra Empire has fallen" Said the alien, one eye peering at me through a hole of it's oversized hood. It's eye was dark, a single strip of yellow crossing from left to right.
"Yet, the Moss still grows" I stated, never taking my eyes off of the creature before me.
"The Nightscape welcomes you" The alien bowed, closing it's eye and retreating back into the shadows. The green light snuffled out, leaving me in the dark.
I walked several steps before the green moss started to glow again. This time, it stretched on either side of me, illuminating other figures that walked past.
I knew how dangerous Nightscape was. This was the cesspool of bad that thrived in Refuge. The crooked looks that followed me as I walked the path of moss, made me aware of the daggers rubbing the sides of my thighs. You couldn't be too careful here.
A few Scape merchants settled into make-shift booths, selling things that were rare. I couldn't look at the creature skins, or at the bubbling concoctions that smelled of rotting flesh. I was here for one thing, and one thing only.
