JACK ☃️
My eyes sprang up, gasping from the horror. I recently had a dream about Rapunzel and my parents... They were chanting my name, and I simply fell over some type of cliff, and then I saw Frederic catch me and murder me, which is why I woke up. It was strange, though. The strangest nightmare ever. "Jack, are you alright?"
When I looked up at Elsa, I couldn't tell if she was bewildered or worried. Then I saw my head was resting on her shoulder. Cara's blanket slid from my chest and rested on my lap as I swiftly straightened up. "Why is this blanket wrapped over me?" I frowned.
"Cara throws the blanket on you by herself," Elsa chuckled. I gazed up at her, then down at Cara, who was sleeping in her arms. Even though she was sleeping, I ruffled her hair.
"How long she has been sleeping?" I asked, rubbing my eyelids.
"A while. Uhm--Are you okay? You keep saying--Punzel in your sleep?" Elsa asked.
As I averted her gaze, the warmth crept up my cheeks. That was very humiliating when I talked in my sleep. "I did?" I groaned, running my hand through my hair.
She hummed and nodded "Yes, indeed. You had a dream about your wife?"
I looked at her while I cleared my throat, unsure whether I wanted to reveal Rapunzel was my wife. I simply shrugged my shoulders. She looked at my reaction with a pout. "How come you didn't bring your wife?"
"Why didn't you bring your boyfriend?" I asked bluntly, attempting to dodge the issue she posed. I grinned at her red-faced expression. I got you now, didn't I?
"W-what--Me? No. I-I d-don't have a boyfriend," She muttered, looking away from me.
I frowned to her statement, "Why?"
She looked at me again with her cheeks still reddened. "What do you mean 'what?'"
"I find it hard to believe that you don't have a boyfriend," I remarked.
"Well--I--I don't know. I'm a busy woman... I d-don't have a time for a man,"
I scoffed mockingly, "That's too bad for someone attractive like you"
She looked at me with her eyes widened that I would expected her to be, "Wha-What?"
I smirked. "Well, it was strange that you have pretty face but you don't have a time for a man,"
I started to laugh because she was still speechless and turned aside as she murmured something. Seeing her response was quite awkward for her. She smacked her fist into my shoulder because I was still laughing. "Stop laughing, you moron." She gave a growl. "You better not change the subject,"
I muffled my laughter "Sorry for teasing you. But, you questioned why I didn't bring my—wife because she died" I muttered the final word in hushed tones. I'm not sure I could confess to her like that. I didn't want Rapunzel to be gone yet. Maybe there's no way they'd lie about it...
"Wait. But, who was the red curly girl that had your daughter before?"
I was perplexed as I stared at her with a frown. Then I realised who she was referring to. "She's a buddy of mine, Merida,"
She hummed, "Okay, I see. So, you're a single father,"
I nodded and took a drink from my water bottle in my bag.
"In any case, how old are you?" She inquired one again.
My brows were lifted as I glanced at her. This girl had a tendency for asking a lot of questions. I sipped, then closed the bottle's cap and put it back in my backpack, "I'm eighteen," I acknowledge.
"Wait, you're still high school student? You're so young to be a father," She gasped.
Oh, no. So, what should I say? That I was expelled from school because I was committing burglaries from two years ago and had previously been caught? No way.
Think about it, Jack. Think.
"Uhm, no I was turning nineteen this year," I shrugged, telling the half truth. "But, I've dropped the school."
"Mmmmm," She narrowed her brows as she peered at me. She was continually gazing at me, so I frowned. "I get it! You left because you wanted to be responsible for Cara, and then you married because your parents told you to. You're still living with them, and you've found a job for your daughter, correct? or did you not?"
I laughed loudly but quickly covered my mouth, continuing laughing behind my hand since I didn't want to wake Cara up with my sudden laughter. When I did that, she poked my arm. This is just funny. I'm not sure why I'm meant to laugh. She may be a fantastic writer, or she could have spent too much time watching television.
"What is it so funny?" She pouted.
"Uh, because it's hilarious you have right answers," I bluffed as I wiped the tears from my eyes. But it was still amusing.
"Oh, well. It's not funny at all," She stated back.
I chuckled, "Yeah--now, you knew my story. What's your story?" I straightened up my seat.
She sighed, "I'm twenty-four years old, to be precise. I am still a marketing business major student and a novelist. I don't have a child or a husband as of yet. I have an in-law sister and a brother. I'm also an aunt. My sister had birth a few weeks ago, I believe. Now I've come to see her and her newborn child."
Novelist. It was no surprise that she can make up my'story.' "Oh, has your sister decided on a name for the baby?" I said with a smile.
"His name is Felix,"
I nodded in amusement, "That's great name. So you're from Nashville, right?"
"No, I'm a native of Norway. But, I lived in New York City for studying. It was only my sister who resided there because her husband was there "She stated.
If her sister lived there, she would probably know where Kristoff lived, right? But it can't be true. He may be in any part of Nashville. It was a massive country. What if Kristoff is the bad guy? What if he takes Cara away from me?
Ugh. Stop thinking negative. He's Rapunzel's cousin. He wouldn't do such thing... I hope?
"Why are you going to Nashville anyway?" She asked, snapping out my thoughts.
"What?" I asked, not really hear what was she asking.
She scoffed, "I asked you, why are you going to Nashville?"
"Oh, I-I uh I wanted to start a new life with Cara there, you know after...my--wife died," I bluffed at the end, not really to tell her the truth. Besides, she is just a stranger.
"When she's died?"
I gulped, "Uhm--a few weeks ago," I felt guilty to keep lying her. I was not really good at lying though. She already believed me.
"You don't have to leave, you know. After all, what are your parents thinking?" She inquired. I'm too tired to deal with the question right now.
I sighed and said, "My parents died a few months ago as well. So Cara is the only family I have." Hmm, I assume I was speaking the truth this time? Emma is still alive and well, and she is already in the child service. I'll get her after my difficulty is sorted.
"And how about her parents?" She questioned again and again.
"Did you like asking a lot of questions?" Looking at her, I finally said it.
"I'm simply curious. There's no reason to be mad," She rolled her eyes and sneered.
"Sorry. Uhm—since you're awake, I suppose I should return to my seat "Elsa remarked as she carefully lifted Cara from her lap, attempting to stand up. I should have told her she shouldn't do it. Cara then began to weep. "Oh, Cara," Elsa mumbled as she began to gently pat her. I just stared at them when Cara fell asleep again.
"Looks like you'll have to sit here with me," I smirked.
I noticed her face reddening and turning away, "Shut up," I said, then chuckled. She's just hilarious. I enjoy being around her.
