" I live without parents and I want a balloon sword to cut your ass!"
Autumn is time of peace for some. But not those in school. It may be one of the most beautiful but school just being thrown back in your face is a bit of a downer.
As some may spend their time moping I'm trying to look ad the up side to this and decided to go to my old elementary school carnival or as they say "Fall Festival" which I think is the way . Yes I know living on the edge. But it's nice to revisit places that have brought you joy.
To make sure it actually is as fun as my childish mind believes it was I'm making my friend Nate tag along. And I'm probably doing him a favor by getting him out of his room for once. Trust me I love to be isolated from the world as much as the next guy and I'll get out if I need to but this for some reason is just a sentimental thing for me.
I waited till night fall to get to the school. I told Nate to meet me at the entrance once he gets his admission. People gave me a weird look when I got a wrist band to show I paid but it honestly didn't bother me. I walked up to the entrance and saw Nate standing there looking at his phone.
"NATE!" I yelled at him making him stiffen and almost drop his phone. "JESUS. Oh it's just you." He said flatly at the end."Ok, you don't seem happy to see me." I trailed off. "Do you actually want to spend your night at a carnival for kids? You're literally like, 23 right? There's so many other things you can do." I rolled my eyes. "I have the maturity of a 4 year old and this has sentimental value to me ok? I was hoping you would at least try to enjoy this with me. We can leave after an hour if you want ok? Will that make you at least try to fake being happy? For me?." He could clearly hear me pleading. "OK Y/N fine. But only an hour." I jumped up and down happily and wrapped him in an embrace.
We walked into the carnival. The familiar sent of popcorn and pizza filled my nostrils. The sounds of children laughing and the whir of questionably safe rides filled the air as well as the occasional ding of a bell indicating a child won a prize. "So this place brings back your memories for you?" Nate said elbowing my side. "Yup. Oh and-" I quickly laced together our fingers and dragged him forward. "You might not wanna stand there. Trust me I know this place like the back of my hand." Anyone could hear the smirk in my voice. "Yeah right, but ok. You are more experienced in this place than me so I'll listen to you."
Just as he finished his sentence I pulled him closer to me to avoid him getting hit by the hay-ride. I patted his shoulder "Good choice."
We approached the food stand and we're greeted by who probably was one of my old teachers but revisiting them wasn't why I was here. "Just one cotton candy please." Nate said and handed the woman the money. "Also it's nice seeing you again Y/N. This one is on me, for one of my students." "Thank you." I said as they handed us the candy floss. "See Nate, if we didn't go here tonight you wouldn't be eating free cotton candy." "Yeah yeah, shut up. Let's just go on a ride. Your hour is gonna start running out if you just stand here trying to win me over." I huffed and made my way over to the games angrily with Nate's hand in mine and cotton candy in the other.
*time skip*
"PLAY ONE GAME!" I raised my voice at Nate, making a few people stare at me which I just returned with a smile. "Ok, fine. Will you stop yelling if I do?" "Of course." I said with a smile. He huffed in defeat. "Fine." I grinned from ear to ear and dragged him along. "Pick." I said bluntly. "Pick what?" "Pick a game." In front of us was a test your strength game, a crummy basketball game and a beanbag toss.
"I guess the test your strength." He said scratching his neck. We walked up as I saw a kid walk away. The person in charge of the booth handed me the mallet and I got ready to swing. Just before I did I made sure Nate was far enough so I didn't hit him. I struck the plate on the high striker and the puck was just a bit away from the bell. "Sorry sweetie." I heard as I handed the mallet to Nate with a roll of my eyes and a huff in frustration. Nate being stronger and more well built than me hit the plate and the bell rung. "Congratulations, pick a prize." Nate was told by a woman at the booth. "Umm, hey Y/N?" "Hmm" I tuned in to what was happening once I heard my name. "Pick a prize." "Oh umm ok I guess (insert coolio prize here)." The woman grabbed the plushie and handed it to me "You two are a cute couple by the way." She said to us." "Oh we're not a-" Nate chimed in "One hour, remember?" "Yeah." I simply smiled at the woman and made my way away from the booth.
"Enjoying your time here yet?" I asked obviously annoyed. "Actually kinda." "Wait really?" "Yeah, it is kinda cool to pretty much revisit childhood and get prizes now because we do have an advantage over the kids." I laughed at his statement "OK I'll just ignore that 2nd part but besides that does that mean we can stay more than an hour?" I pleaded. "Of course. Plus knowing you, you probably wanna see those sad clowns." He said with a chuckle and giving me a side hug. "Personally, I don't care if I'm old enough to drink beer. I live without parents and I want a balloon sword to cut your ass!" I said while eating cotton candy. "Plus let's ride on the hay-ride that has almost hit you I think....3 times tonight?" Chuckling he just brought me closer. I pecked his cheek resulting in his cheeks flushing in pink. "Thank you." He returned the kiss "No problem." "Well, we gotta hurry. If it's anything like when I went here the kids are in love with those clowns so we better hurry. I need a sword or I'm leaving here all pouty." I said over my shoulder beginning to run over to the line for balloon animals and face paint. "I'm not sure if I'm here with an adult or a four year old."
