"That's not cute anymore genius, it's just rude."
You met your best friend on the first day of kindergarten. You started as the optimistic child with stars in your eyes ready to take on school at the young age. You weren't the most social child but you still happened to find yourself a little partner in crime at the time and surprisingly, they remained with you.
You met on the playground like most kids did. You sat alone on the swings not bothering to move as you doodled in the dirt with your shoe. You simply got lost in your silence and blocked out the joyful screaming if other children until you felt a sharp tug at the back of your head. Needless to say this caused you to quickly whip your head around and you saw a boy from your class standing there looking as innocent as possible. His big Brown eyes were looking in the opposite direction from you and you could see him trying to contain his laughter from his actions.
The 1st day and someone was already picking on you. You jumped off of the swing set and walked right up to the kid, anger clearly written across your face. You stood in front of him arms crossed. He had the same innocent look on his face as you tapped your foot impatiently. You were a little shy kid but you didn't want a kid picking on you and pulling your hair on the 1st day.
"Well?" You finally begin. The kid brought up a hand to the dark messy locks on his head and scratched his head. He stood silently, extremely confused.
"Wh-what?" The boy finally responded with a slight stutter. To which you rolled your eyes."Can you do me a favor and not pick on me? It's only the 1st day." Words rich with venom, you stared at the other boy looking up a small bit due to the small difference in hight.
By now the other child was completely dumb founded, stuttering and trying to find the correct words.
"I-I wasn't trying to- , I thought t-that-" the boy continued his rambling for a while until he took a deep breath and soon just became filled with anger. All that came to your mind was how other girls around your age constantly said how boys were stupid, and this was definitely a prime example in your young mind.
"My friends said th- that was how to get a girls attention!" The boy spat in an angry tone, stumbling on his words.
You just cocked your head to one side. Wow, you thought. All those other girls were right. You grew more annoyed simply in the boys presence. "How about next time you try to get someone's attention, you don't be a jerk!" You said with a roll of your eyes and a turn on your heel.
You left the poor little boy standing alone with his jaw to floor. Most people at such a young age wouldn't have much to say to just another stupid childish act. You made it clear on the very 1st day you didn't want to deal with the stupid little acts that were common around your age. So you went off to another branch of the playground and decided to just doodle in the sand like before.
Once recess was over, your teacher just simply allowed free time since there was nothing to teach on the 1st day. So as other children were chatting or other things you didn't pay attention to, you sat at a table and did whatever appealed to you at the moment. Drawing on a piece of paper, reading one of the little picture books left on the table and occasionally just drumming your fingers on the table wait for time to pass.
Five-year old you had your nose buried in a book reading about nature and butterflies, that whole deal that was apparently very appealing at that age, as you heard footsteps make their way over to you. Somehow you were able to hear them over all the other commotion going on in the room. You glanced up to see the same boy from before. Just the sight of him made you annoyed like before. He was standing next to you, staring at the ground. You let out a small hum in acknowledgement.
"I- I'm sorry about earlier-" the boy started, his dark hair covering his brown orbs. "I just- um, I asked my friends how I could g-get your attention and I guess they weren't too helpful." You could hear the boys voice get quieter as he continued.
"I just wanted to talk to you." He said just above a whisper.
At that point you could tell he didn't mean any harm so you stood up from your seat and wrapped your arms around the boy. You felt him tense at the initial contact but he soon relaxed and returned the gesture.
You soon pulled away and simply gave the boy a toothy grin and had a normal introduction.
"I'm Y/N." You said with a big grin. The black haired boy finally looked up at you and you got a full view of his face.
"I- I'm Nate." You saw big dimples form on his face as the boy began to get into a cheery mood.
You both sat down at the table and began to talk about all the things that interested you both. Your friendship lasted till your adulthood and then became a relationship.
Present day, you guys sat in the apartment you both shared going through pictures that one of your parents had sent you, the majority of them just so happened to be from when you both were in kindergarten.
"We were so cute back then!" Your boyfriend said gazing at the photo. You rolled your eyes, a huge smile on your face. "We were, ya know when you weren't pulling on my hair?" You said with a chuckle.
"Aww come on-" Nate quickly began to lightly tug on your hair just like he did when you both were younger. "Even then, I was adorable." He said with a light laugh.
You quickly swatted his hand away. "That's not cute anymore genius, it's just rude." And with that you stood up and made your way to the kitchen. "You act just like you did back then." Nate stood up and followed you. "And you admit, it was cute."
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say Smith." You said linking your arms around your boyfriend's neck and pressing your lips to his. "And to think, back then I would've said you had cooties. It amazing were still dealing with each other." Nate rested his head on top af yours as you stood together quietly.
"Well, I still would've wanted to be with you back then." Nate said with a kiss to your temple. "You get to deal me now and until we're old." A light laugh slipped from your mouth. "Well I wouldn't want it any other way."
Oh boy guess who's running out of ideas! If anyone would want to request anything that be coolio!
