"You pretty much set me up with everyone except you."

Friday was always date night for you. A new guy each week in hopes of getting someone who you would click with. No one ever stuck out in your opinion. You just weren't interested in any of the guys you were meeting.

Probably because your little match maker was the only one who you had eyes for. You thought it was obvious. That he would get the hint. But after each failed date, he just sent you on another. You had to have made it clear enough so at this point he must just not be interested.

So, at five on Friday evening you received a text from Nate, him giving you a bit of information for your date in a few hours. Name, pictures, interests, and where you two would be going. You read over everything and rolled your eyes.

Nate, do you wanna come over and hang out later? After the date?

You quickly sent the message and drummed your fingers on the armrest of your sofa.

You phone started to ring. Nate was calling you so you quickly picked up and pressed your phone to your ear.

"Hey Nate."  You said, annoyance in your voice.

"Hey, don't you wanna hang out with your date afterwards?"

How oblivious can you be?  You thought to yourself.

You let out a small sight before responding.

"Nate, why would I be asking you if you wanna hang out if I wanted to hang out with my date? You know that they usually don't go well anyways."

The next time you heard Nate speak he sounded annoyed as well.

"Just give him a chance ok? You shoot down all the guys I send your way."
He stopped for a second and took a deep breath.

"Just give this guy a chance ok? For me?" He sounded as if he was begging you. So you obviously couldn't turn down his request, which instantly brightened his mood.

"But still, can you come over afterwards? Please?"

Nate let out a big sigh and then a small laugh.

"Ok, ok, fine."

And a smile instantly was plastered across your face.

"Shouldn't you be getting ready now though?"

You quickly checked the time,
5:30 , and you need to meet your date at seven.

So you and Nate quickly said your goodbyes and you started to get ready for your date.

...

Just before seven, you made your way into a nice restaurant and waited for your date. You sat at a table for two and watched the clock as time passed. About five minutes later the same man from the picture nate sent you sat down across from you, grinning from ear to ear.

"Y/N right?"

You responded with a nod of your head. He held out a hand and introduced himself as Sage. And after a few minutes of being with him you weren't disappointed to say the least.

This should be fun.

...

Sage was the only person you had a successful date with since the beginning of Nate's whole matchmaking thing. So needless to say you planned to meet up again. You parted ways with him leaving a kiss on your cheek which instantly made your cheeks turn red. So when you went back to your place to hang out with Nate that was clearly something that you chose to talk about.

Out of your classier attire, you sat with Nate and rambled on about your date.

"I'm so surprised it worked out! " Was a phrase that Nate physically reacted to negatively but it went right over your head. He would just look away from you with an unamused expression and a hint of jealousy in his eyes. So as you were going on talking about your date, your friend's patience was wearing thin.

He still found a way to keep up his act somehow. But every praise that slipped passed your lips made him more annoyed. Finally, he spoke up.

"Y/N, you went on one date with him. One. And you can't keep quiet about him. How?"

This statement took you by surprise.

"I mean, you went on plenty of dates before this one. And apparently this guy is so special, I don't get it."

You both sat in silence for a while. He was right. Week after week you went out with someone else. But his argument wasn't adding up with a few things.

"Nate, why is it that you're finding a problem with the person you set me up with." You asked with a tilt of your head. His eyes quickly shifted away from you and onto his lap. Rubbing his palms together, he took a sharp breath.

"You know what? You're right. I set you up with him. I shouldn't be objecting to this now." You opened your mouth to speak but we're quickly cut off.
"Let's just drop it. I'm not going to try and change anything now." He said, bringing his voice to be almost inaudible towards the end.

That statement threw you off.

"What do you mean you're not going to change anything? Change what?" You asked, turning to face Nate. He was slightly hesitant before answering.

When he spoke he tried to look anywhere besides you. Whereas you kept all your focus on him.

"I just-I don't want to change anything between us. That's all."

You pulled in Nate for a hug. "Nate, stop being cheesy and talk like we're normal people ok?"

He let out a small laugh and pulled away from you. He started to glance around the room just like before

"So with me setting you up on all those dates-"

"Nate, you pretty much set me up with everyone except you." He cracked an awkward smile. "So the explanation for that is bound to be interesting."

"Well-" he started but began to quickly shift awkwardly.

"At the time, I was very awkward so I decided that to get over my little crush on you I would set you up with a few people. I though that maybe it would help me get over you at the time."

The room became silent. But you lifted a small smile.

"So, as in 'at the time' you're over it now? Because I haven't seen you letting up on these dates?" You said, amusement clear in your voice.

Nate's cheeks flared up as he tried to stutter out an explanation before finally just sitting silently. You leaned in and gave him a quick peck on his lips. You then grabbed your phone.

"Wh-what are you doing?" Nate asked, still flustered from the previous events.

"Texting Sage. I'm telling him I'm not interested." You stated with a huge smile on your face.

And with that, Nate tackled you in a bear hug and said under his breath.

"I love you so much."

A grin plastered on his face.

"I love you too, idiot."
