"Ruby, come back here!" Qrow yelled across the park as his niece, Ruby, ran off to the swing set.
The giggly little girl jumped into the seat and waited for her uncle to push her, along with her blonde older sister, Yang.
"Uncle Qrow!" she giggled. "Push me, push me!"
"I'll push you off the seat if you ever run off like that again", he grumbled. "Alright..."
He stood behind his niece and gently pushed the seat for a little swing.
"Push me harder!" she yelled.
"Hey! Watch your attitude!" Qrow yelled back.
"I will if you push me harder!"
"That's it."
Qrow pushed the seat hard enough for Ruby to swing HIGH up in the air than any other child on the swing set. But it only made the little girl giggle in delight.
"Doesn't this girl get scared of anything...?" Qrow said under his breath.
So there he stood pushing Ruby on the swing, bored out of his mind. He could've used his time to hit the clubs, get wasted, wake up with women he doesn't know, but no. Taiyang had to call Qrow in order to ask him to accompany him with the girls to the park. As his uncle, he would say yes. But as an undiscovered criminal, he would say, "Sorry, can't make it. I'm at Jackie Diamonds hitting it up." He did ask Ozpin to go with the girls instead, but he said,
"If you're not going with them, you're being a bad uncle."
Of course, he didn't want to be called the "bad uncle". Qrow loves his nieces very much and he would love to spend time being with them... if he didn't agree on the whole Oculus Trust mission.
"Hey, Tai", Qrow called out as Taiyang was helping Yang onto the slide.
"Yeah?"
"Your kid here has quite a mouth."
"Do not!" Ruby yelled.
"Ruby, what did I tell you about having bad behavior?" Taiyang asked like a parent. Well, he is.
"Always be a good girl", Ruby said annoyed.
"And?"
"And that being bad will put me on Santa's naughty list this year."
"Good", Taiyang smiled.
Ruby then ran around the park giggling as she found some other kids to play with.
Qrow tried not to laugh out his stomach what he had witnessed from both Ruby and Taiyang.
"Seriously?" he laughed.
"What?"
"THAT'S what you taught your kid?"
"She's at a young age, it's easier to discipline kids this way", the blonde male explained as he watched Yang slide down the tunnel slide. "Why do you worry? Do you have another way to discipline her whenever I'm gone?"
"I hide the cookie jar away from her, that's gotta be something", Qrow shrugged his shoulders.
"Oh, that's clever!" Taiyang laughed. "I could've done that."
After sharing their laugh, Qrow then looked around the park, watching all the kids run around with squeals and laughter as the other parents watched as well.
It was so weird for him, watching innocent children and adults in the outside world living off their own happiness. No criminals, no trouble.... no secrets. All rainbows and sunshine for everyone. But for Qrow, it was all ghastly and gloomy for him. And the strange thing for him was that he enjoyed it. Ghastly and gloomy was his thing. Colorless, cloudy, gray, dim, ashen, dark, sallow... misty... ghastly... gloomy... Qrow. Yep, he loved it alright. He loved it ever since his first heist. There was nothing better than to take down a deceptive subway train that actually carried over $1,000,000 with simple explosives that destroyed half the subway. Sure, it was reckless, but it was also fun.
