Rue's POV

When I get back from the hill I go up to my room to do homework. I feel really bad for Maggs. I look at the time. It's 5:30. I have half an hour before dinner to do homework.

"Let's see. I've got math and social studies. I have to read this dumb book for language arts and that's it. Ugh," I say to myself. I work on math first sense it will take me the least amount of time.

My phone vibrates. I pick it up half expecting Maggs or Laura half expect my crush Jason. But not my mom.

Mom: Hey sweetie. You okay? You just went up to your room without saying a word.

Me: Yeah mom I'm fine. I just needed to do homework.

Mom: Okay, well dinner's ready you can come down now.

Me: Okay. I'll be down in a minute.

I put down my finished math homework and jog down the stairs.

"What's for dinner?" I ask.

"Meatloaf," my dad says.

"Okay," I say. I sit down across from my brother. We start eating after everyone gets food. When I'm not paying attention and my parents aren't either Jackson flings some mashed potatoes at me with his spoon. They get in my hair and I scream. I take a handful of potatoes, walk over to him, and smear it all over his face and in his hair.

"Mom! Rue got mashed potatoes all over me," Jackson whines wiping his gave off with a napkin.

"Rue! Go to your room, take your food with you, and finish you homework! And give me your phone!" my mom says.

"But he started...." I stopped. My mom was giving me a look like I don't care who started it now do what I said. So I reluctantly gave her my phone, took my plate, and walked upstairs. I finished my homework and dinner, then sulked in my room.
