Life is Hard

Chapter 2

Laura's POV

I walked through the meadow in my backyard. I has hot tears dripping down my face. My head was hung low. I was texting Rue.

Rue: When will you be in the woods?!

Me: Soon. I'm almost to the woods.

There's some woods that are at the end of my meadow. Rue always goes there because she lives really close to them. If I want to get to Maggs' hill, I have to go across my meadow, through the woods, through another meadow and then I'm there.

(Get the routine?) Alright.

A tear dripped down onto my phone. I reached the tree line and slipped in. I walked to the meeting place that Rue, Maggs and I have.

"What's wrong? What did they say this time?" Rue asks as she sees my tears.

"Nothing. I was texting.....Josh..." I say slowly.

"Careful with your arm, you don't wanna hurt it," Rue says because I was resting my broken arm on a tree. "What happened?"

"He...he dumped me!" I say.

"Why would he do that?"

"I don't know. I want revenge though. He knows how bad my life is..."

"He just added to that. Well, guess what? I'm going full blast at him, next chance I get!"

"Rue, I don't want you to get suspended like last time..."

"Laura, I'm going to his house this time."

"Rue!" What's gotten into her?!

"Laura, come on. We need to get you to Maggie's hill. The sun will be setting soon. I know you love them. She'll be out there too. Goodness, Laura, why did you wear a dress?"

"Because I like wearing them! I'm wearing sneakers!"

"Let's go."

We hurry through the woods and through the next meadow. We reach the hill and race up to the top. We find Maggs.

"Hey," Rue says. She doesn't even seem to be out of breath.

"Oh, h-" she starts."Laura..."

"It's Josh," I say, dropping my hands down onto my sides, letting them hang.

"Is he acting up?" Maggs asks.

"Dumped me over fucking texts!"

"Laura, calm down. Look, the sun is setting. Sit down," Rue says, comforting me.

I sit down and watch as the sun turns pink. The sky goes to a settle orange, streaking the clouds with pink. Purple followed by a deep blue soon takes over the sky. The sky turns dark.

After a while, Rue and I go back and I go home. I relax in my bed and soon fall asleep.
