Liam was daydreaming in Chemistry class as the professor went on lecturing. The brunette was completely distracted in his own thoughts as he kept on recalling a moment from lunch earlier that day that was ingrained into his memory, never leaving his thought process the whole afternoon.

Lunch was as usual for them that day, the five teens all sitting together on their table. They were just messing about, having a normal conversation like they always did. Louis was throwing leftover food at everybody, Niall stuffed his own face with food, Harry was trying to protect his lunch from the oldest boy, and Liam and Zayn were trying to protect themselves from the flying food coming their way.

Somewhere during that time, Zayn had gone to whisper something to Liam. The brunette wasn’t quite able to discern the other boy’s words, but he remembered every second of what happened at that moment. When the slightly older teen leaned in to say something, Liam felt the dark eyed teen’s breath against his face, making the brunette turn slightly red at the ears from the feeling.

He had gotten a little too close, and Liam felt Zayn’s soft lips brush against the edge of his outer ear, making Liam feel slight chills at the contact, but at the same time, warm on the inside.

Moving suddenly, the brunette accidentally bumped into the black haired boy. Zayn, whose lips were only brushing against his before, had ended up pressing against the side of Liam’s face.

Interpreting the shivers he felt as a tickle, Liam had laughed at whatever the other boy was saying to him. It seemed like it was a reasonable response, because the dark eyed teen laughed along, but the brunette wondered what Zayn had originally said.

Liam was still wondering what had made him react so strangely to the contact between the two when Danielle shook him out of his thoughts.

“Liam? Are you listening?”

Looking around him, the brunette was surprised to see that everyone in the class was gone. It was only him and the curly haired girl in the room. He was surprised. Liam didn’t even hear the bell ring.

“Huh? Oh, hi Danielle. Sorry about that. What did you say?”

“I asked you if you were going to the Winter Ball.”

“Oh yeah, of course I’m going.”

The other boys had explained to Liam that every year a week before holiday break would begin, a dance was held for all of the students. Attendance wasn’t mandatory of course, but most people winded up going anyways. It was meant to be a final chance to have fun with school friends before everyone had left for the vacation.

“Where are you all going for the holiday?” Liam had asked them.

“Me and Hazza are staying in school this year. We visited each other’s houses already, so we felt like just hanging around here,” Louis said.

“My parents are visiting my older brother, so I’m staying in school too,” Niall piped.

“And I just felt like staying because everyone else was,” Zayn shrugged.

Liam reminded himself to call his parents later. He needed to figure out what his own plans for the break, and if he was going to stay or not. Although, Liam slightly hoped that he would be able to stay at school for the break. His friends were closer to his family than his actual one.

“So,” Danielle continued, “I was wondering… if you would you like to go the dance with me?”

The question surprised Liam. Not that the two didn’t get along or anything, it was just that Danielle had never clearly shown in interest in him before. They always talked in Chemistry, and he could say some of their conversations were on the flirty side, but the brunette had always pegged it as harmless joking.
