It was nearly midnight when Harry stumbled into the apartment with tears in his eyes, fumbling to get to his shared room with Louis. The curly haired boy cursed his luck as he rammed his foot against a table in the dark, silently cursing in pain. His date ended in disaster, although he had thought the rest of the date went by fine.

“I had a really great time today,” Harry said. He was walking Sarah to her dorm, trying to lighten up the mood with some conversation on the way there.

“It was nice.” She merely responded, not exactly looking him in the eye. Her gaze looked distant, as if not really paying attention to the conversation.

Noticing her disinterest, the curly haired boy started feeling uneasy, wondering if he did something wrong during the night. They had a classic movie and dinner date, and he even got a kiss while they were in the theatre. Harry couldn’t help notice how soft looking the girl’s lips were, and the pretty color they were as their mouths got closer and closer. When their lips finally met, Harry closed his eyes and thought he felt a spark like sensation as their mouths conformed with each other’s.

“So, would like you to go out again sometime?” the curly haired boy asked, hoping for a second date.

They continued walking to her dorm for a while, Sarah silent the entire time, not bothering to answer his question. Harry felt his palms starting to clam up as they got closer to her apartment, anxiously waiting for her reply. It wasn’t until they finally reached the entrance to her dorm when she finally answered.

“Harry, I don’t think we should go out after all.”

He had looked at her in shock, not totally comprehending her words as she gave him her response. Harry was confused. The curly haired boy thought the date went fairly well. It wasn’t anything special, sure, but it was far from bad.

“Why?” he managed to get out, completely clueless as to why Sarah had rejected his offer.

With a sigh, the blonde girl tried explaining herself. “It’s not that this date was bad or anything, it was fine. It’s just that when I asked you out, I was kind of hoping for something more, more special. Maybe I was expecting too much, but when we were talking in class, I always thought we could connect, you know? Going on this date proved me wrong.

“You’re a great guy Harry, really. It’s just that I went on this date in the hopes of starting something serious, but I realized you just weren’t my type of guy. When we kissed, I didn’t feel anything. I’m not saying you’re a bad kisser or anything, but I felt like it was too detached, or out of touch. I don’t know really, something just didn’t seem right.

“Normally, I would take up your offer, but I don’t want to lead you on. I really don’t want to have another date, and I’m sorry. I did have a nice time though, and thank you for going out with me. Your sweet Harry, just not meant for me. Good night.”

With a final quick kiss to his cheek, Sarah ran back to her dorm, leaving Harry alone outside to fully process her words. The curly haired boy’s mind was muddled, he thought he had felt a spark when they kissed, shouldn’t the girl have felt the same? The blonde had left so fast he didn’t even have time to respond to her words.

Looking at the dorm entrance one final time, Harry’s mind was filled with nothing but regret. Sarah was already gone. He should have stopped her, tried to her convince her to give him another chance. He wanted her so desperately, but for some reason, she didn’t want him. He wanted to kiss her again, to prove she was wrong, but he knew it was too late. He would never get that second chance.

Turning away from the dorm, Harry slowly made his way back to the apartment, kicking a pebble with his shoe. He kept his head down the entire way home, not sure what to think as he wondered what Sarah had meant when she said he wasn’t meant for her.
