It has been a week since my last entry. There have been 3 more murders, last of which happened today. I inspected each one, and the first 2 were different from the first one that I had originally inspected. The second of the murders left the body torn through and messy. But no blood had been left behind. The third of which was hidden from view to all but one person. As if the murderer hadn't wanted to let anyone but her to find the body. That one was a husband and father to 3 children. His wife came home early that morning to find him in the bed. She thought he was asleep until she nudged him and his body fell to the floor but his head remained on the pillow facing her. The children were at school when she found him, but to find a body like that is sick. Still, the blood remained missing.
Then the fourth murder from this morning is strange. It was only strange because it was exactly as the first from about a week ago. It was also strange because I wasn't the only person investigating it.
I saw him standing almost exactly above where the body had been found. I approached carefully, nothing about him screamed enemy at me but one look and I could feel power emanating from him. A quick smell told me that he was like me. That didn't bode well with me, but I chose to play it casually.
I walked up behind him not bothering with trying to hide my presence. He would have heard or smelt me before I even stepped into the area. "Looks like I am not alone in the world." He spun towards me, looking shaken. "How long have you been standing there?" How could he have not noticed me? Maybe he was too interested in his own thoughts to actually notice.
"Don't worry, I mean no harm if you don't either. I just got here. Do you know who I am?" I need to see how much he can do.
"I'm not stupid, you are a wolf like me. I smelt you a while ago but never noticed how close you had actually gotten." looks like he has some skill after all.
"Well then, why are you here then? As in this particular place?"
"A murder happened here this morning. I saw it and thought that maybe I could help the investigation go a little smoothly." Same purpose as me then.
"You look like you are having trouble though. What is the matter?"
"I don't know, I can't pinpoint the exact thing that keeps bothering me."
"What do you notice about the smell? About the scenery itself? There is no blood splatters, no stench of any kind. Not even a broken branch to show that any fight was put up." He looked around and saw that I was right. He looked at me incredulously.
"How did you notice all that in the small amount of time you were here?"
"There have been at least 3 previous murders like this. The first time made me think a bit but I got it eventually. The problem however is how they are doing it."
"What do you mean by 'they'?"
"There have been three kills that varied very differently from each other. I am assuming that this killer is not working alone but with at least 2 others."
"How do we track them?"
"I haven't gone that far yet. Are there any more of you guys that I don't know about? I'm Mason by the way." I reached out and shook his hand firmly.
"Adrian, and my twin Fabian is like us. We thought we were the only ones until I found you." A twin, interesting.
"Hmm, I have to get going but it was good to meet you." I turned to leave until I heard my name.
"Mason! Be careful won't you? Whatever did this might not be entirely human." The thought hadn't crossed my mind. Knowing that werewolves exist, I guess it makes sense that other supernatural beings could exist as well.
"You too. See you soon."
I left the area and called Stacy as soon as I couldn't hear Adrian walking around.
"Hey Mason, what's up?"
"Hey, do you think that there could be other things like me? Other then werewolves i mean." She is smarter then me, its the best I can hope for.
"I suppose so, I mean, why can't there be? Why? Did you meet something?"
"No, at least not yet. I've been looking into a series of murders that don't quite add up. I don't think anything human could have done this and it was way too clean for a wolf."
"Then don't get involved, if it's something dangerous then you should steer clear."
I know she is right but maybe I can do something about it. We spent the rest of the time talking about mundane things and after about a hour I finally hung up. It is now 10:24 PM and my eyes are getting heavy. I need to sleep before I drool on the paper. Mason out.
