CHAPTER 9
"How could you do that to me?" she demanded.
"I'm sorry," he said. They sat down on the bench.
"How did you know where to find me?" she asked.
"It's June, and this has always been our spot. It's not that hard to figure out, really," he said.
"Oh, right."
"I have something for you," he said, handing her a box. "It's a little early."
"Me first," she said. He stared at her questioningly. She put the box down on the bench. Courtney stood up and moved over so that she was sitting on Blake's lap. She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him gently. Blake was shell-shocked. He couldn't move. She laid her head down on his shoulder and he patted her back.
"You?" he whispered, trailing off. She nodded.
"What time is it?" she asked, looking down at his watch. "78, 713, 856, 000 seconds," she muttered.
"What was that?"
"78, 713, 856, 000 seconds. Convert it."
"Um, 4 years, 5 months, 2 weeks, 6 days, 12 hours, 34 minutes, 18 seconds. What about it?" he asked.
"That's how long I've wanted to do that, to do this," she said, kissing him yet again.
"Mm," he said.
"That's how long I've loved you."
"Then why didn't you do something about it?"
"I could ask you the same question," Courtney muttered, crossing her arms.
"Right," Blake replied, obviously embarrassed. "Wait, what about Ethan?"
"Smart boy," she sighed.
"Well, I am going to be Valedictorian," he smirked.
"Not if I can help it," she laughed. "Anyways, I was using him, to make you jealous, you know, so that you'd actually do something."
"What about the wedding?"
"There never was one."
"You could've been more obvious."
"What fun would that be?" she asked.
"I guess your present is pointless now."
"What is it?" she asked, just now remembering it.
"Open it," he tossed it back to her.
She did and she gasped at what was inside. It was a beautiful diamond necklace that would've went perfectly with her dress.
"It's beautiful, thank you," she whispered.
"Not as beautiful as you," he said.
"Oh, now you say things like that," she groaned, teasingly.
He squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head. She grinned but he couldn't see.
"How much? Wait, I don't want to know, do I?"
"What?" he asked, eyes snapping open.
"How much?" she repeated.
"Not that much," he said.
"Blake! Answer the question!"
He sighed, "$20,000."
"I was right, I didn't want to know." Now she sighed. "Why? And give me a valid answer."
"Because, well..." he started. A girl burst from the bushes and saw that they were holding hands.
"Aw," she said. It was the same girl that said the same thing at the festival nearly 10 months earlier.
"Taylor," Blake groaned. "Just leave. Please."
"But, Blakey!" she complained.
"Who-," Courtney never finished.
"My sister," Blake whispered to her.
"What?" she asked.
"Taylor, leave please. You can come back later."
"Fine," she stomped away.
"What?" Courtney repeated.
"My sister," he repeated.
