Artemis stared in shock, at the picture that was being displayed in front of her, fear settling to every nerve of her slim body. Hadn't it only been a few hours before, that she had been with Black Velocity, and he had been actually talking with her? She certainly hadn't seen the escape coming, and if she had, she would have convinced the teen otherwise, because she knew she was probably the only guard and person that understood him. Tuning in her ears to the TV, she listened as the reporter said gravely, "Black Velocity...the son of the ever infamous Reverse Flash of Central City, has defied other villains before him, and has escaped the inescapable Belle Reve Penitentiary. We turn to Amanda Waller, Belle Reve's warden, for more on this development." The camera shifted to show Waller, standing with a frown. She said, "Though not armed, Black Velocity is considered very dangerous, and if anyone has any news as to his whereabouts, please do not hesitate to let us know. We advise that all citizens, from Star City to Gotham City, stay inside their homes, and do not let anyone near, as he can and will kill anyone who stands in his way. We assure you, that we are working consistently around the clock, to track him down, and bring him down. We hope, that with your cooperation, we can find Black Velocity, and clear this all up. The officer in charge of Black Velocity was a Mr. Adrien Fitzgerald, and as such, he will be detained, as to make sure he is not a suspect in this escape. Thank you." Artemis turned off the TV, then heard her mom say, "That is just unbelieveable. Belle Reve is one of the highest security prisons in all of the world. How could a villain speedster escape, with no one noticing?" Artemis replied, "Black Velocity's powers are much stronger that Flash's. It's actually no wonder that he got through, because he vibrated through a thick, steel metal door, under my watch. He was the one I took down. It just doesn't seem like him to do something this drastic, escaping Belle Reve in broad daylight, I mean." Hearing her phone ring, Artemis pulled it out of her pocket, and answered, saying, "Hey Dick! What's up over there in Gotham?" On the other end, the raven hair colored teen replied, "Artemis...are you okay? I was watching the news about the break out at Belle Reve. Didn't you tell me you got a job as a guard there?" Artemis answered, "I'm fine, Dick. Really. I wasn't even on call when it happened. I just found out about it myself." The teen replied, "Still, I just don't know how that could have happened. I mean, I've been to Belle Reve to transport the metahumans, because I'm a cop in training, and that facility, is so highly guarded, that even my badge couldn't get me through. I had to go through a process, just to get in. Everything they do, is so classified, that not even the government knows what kinds of things they are doing." Artemis answered, "Wow, and I thought the government had a ton of control. So, what is Gotham going to do about the problem, if Black Velocity shows up there? There's a higher risk factor of him escaping in transit, if you were to find him there, and try to move him without some kind of help." Dick said, "I am not sure what the department is planning on doing, but if the problem arises, I think we're going to get help from Central City and Keystone City, who are more familiar with how to transport a speedster. They've got both Flash and Kid Flash confronting their Rogues, and asking around the cities, to try to locate where Black Velocity, as well as his father, are hiding out." Artemis nodded, then said, "Good idea for them to be on speed dial, if that's an option." Dick responded, "I'll talk to my boss about getting us put through to Central and Keystone. I'll call you sometime tomorrow, Artemis. Stay safe, okay? We wouldn't want to make things worse, between Roy and I." The blonde said, "I promise I'll keep myself safe, Dick. Trust me. Goodnight." "Goodnight, Artemis.", Dick answered, then the line dropped, leaving the slim blonde sitting in silence. Turning off her phone, and putting it on the coffee table in front of her, Artemis turned to face her mom, and said, "I think I'm going to go to bed, so I can be ready for tomorrow's work." In response, her mom nodded, and Artemis stood, being sure to grab her phone as she left for her room. When she had arrived, and put her phone on its charger, she went to the closet, and grabbed ahold of a green spaghetti strap tank top and a pair of grey gym pants. Taking her clothes into the bathroom, Artemis changed, being sure to throw her dark blue Belle Reve work shirt over a chair by her desk. She brushed her teeth, then her hair, and walked out to her light flipping it out, before carefully stepping over to her bed, and crawling under the covers. She closed her eyes, and went to sleep, dreaming of not really anything. The next morning, Artemis was awoken by a call on her phone. Sleepily turning onto her left side, she picked up her phone, and answered sluggishly, "Yeah? What is it?" A chirpy feminine voice exclaimed, "Artemis! I am so glad that you're okay after what happened last night! You are okay...aren't you?" The blonde answered, "I'm fine, M'gann. Yeesh, I've only been away from the Team for a few months, and you're still worried. Dick isn't even that worried. I mean, he called me last night, but he wasn't chirpy. You do realize it's like...before dawn, right?" M'gann said, "I know, but Roy's here, and he's asking for you. It sounds really urgent, so you should probably get dressed and come down here to the Cave." Rolling out of bed, Artemis answered, "I'll be there soon. Tell Roy to not come to the house. They should have already issued a watch warrant out for Belle Reve's escaped villain, but he should still be careful." M'gann answered, "Okay, I'll let Roy know you're on your way. I don't know about you, Artemis, but from the way he's been begging to see you, he may have a crush on you. He always did have a thing for Asians, especially after what he did with your sister." Artemis grumbled in response, "Oh, don't even get me started on that... that cheater! Jade may be a villain, like the rest of my psychotically crazy family, but she's still my sister, and I love her. Roy went too far, and picked up the next hot chick that came strolling down his path, after he already told her he loved her. I hate him for that, you know, and I will never be fine with his cheating jerkface near me or Jade again. I'll go, because we used to be teammates, but I will not be expected to enjoy it." "Alright, see you soon!", M'gann exclaimed eagerly. Artemis merely grumbled, "Eh, see you there.", then ended the call. Rolling out of bed, the blonde felt like she had been run over by a dozen trucks, each carrying twenty tons of rocks. Each of her muscle ached, and she was in a crabby mood, all because of Roy now calling to her like some ridiculous, repetitive songbird. Getting herself together, Artemis changed out of her sleepwear, and was running out of the house within thirty minutes, dressed in her skintight, green archer suit, heading for the Cave. Arriving at the Zeta-tube that would bring her directly into the Cave, Artemis suddenly felt like she was being watched. Placing herself in the protective fight position, she called out to the thought to be vacant alley, "Show yourself." Interestingly, a very familiar chuckle sounded from the other side, and out of the dark, morning shadows, came a face that was all too familiar.
