Artemis asked, her voice filled with disbelief, "What are you doing here, Black Velocity?" The villain smirked, then replied flirtatiously, "Well look at you, Princess. All dressed up like some fantastical superhero, I mean, just wow. I am..." "Why and what are you doing here, Black Velocity? Do not make me ask again!", Artemis asked, turning her voice to a more threatening tone. The villain smiled evilly, then said, "Oh, you know...just continuing my father's work. He had a little spill with some people here in Star, and well, he asked me to take care of it, while I was out. By the way, why are you dressed in that? It looks very indecent for a job at Belle Reve. Waller would have your head." Artemis grouchily replied, "Cut to the quick, Black Velocity. We both know you aren't here to do your dad's dirty work. He'd do it all on his own. Why are really here? And don't lie, because I know when you are." Black Velocity sighed, then said, "Fine. I got a little tidbit of information from an outside source, that said my mom is somewhere here in Star City. I broke out to find her, because it was obvious Waller wasn't gonna let me do anything without some guard over my shoulder, twenty-four seven. I'm tired of not knowing why she left me and my dad. I want to know why I have red and black hair, green eyes, and don't look a thing like my dad. I just want the whole truth, once and for all." Narrowing her eyes at the teen criminal and villain suspiciously, Artemis asked, "Are you sure? I mean, there are over a thousand citizens in Star City. How can you be sure that your mother is here, and not in some other city?" Black Velocity growled, "I just know, okay?! I'm sure she's here, and I have to find her." Artemis raised up her hands apologetically, and said, "Okay! You don't have to get mad at me for just asking. I just want to make sure that finding her is what you really want. Right now I'm not your commanding officer, Black Velocity, but the entire city was warned about you, so as someone you can hopefully trust, I think you should go. If you are telling me the truth, and you want to find your mom, then you should leave, before I call the cops, because I may not be in uniform now, but I'm giving you a chance. Hopefully, you'll take my advice, and leave." Black Velocity said, "Thanks, and um...just one other question. Why are you doing this, Princess? Being nice to me, when all I caused you was trouble?" Artemis answered, "Because I know that whatever is going on with you, there is always a part of a person that says they aren't necessarily bad or evil. They only act that way, because they have to, in order to survive. And for some strange reason, though I barely know you, there is something in your eyes, that says you want out of the job of criminal and villain work. I'm not exactly clear if it's true or not, but I'm hoping it is. You should go...I shouldn't even be seen talking with you, because of my reputation." Black Velocity replied, "Yeah, and I don't want to lose my street cred with my father, or anyone else. If anyone saw me talking instead of fighting with a...a hero like you...that would ruin everything, everything I've worked towards, that is." Artemis blinked, and in a split second, Black Velocity was gone with no trace or evidence that he was even near the Zeta-tube or her. Sighing, the blonde went over to the transportation device, and imputed her designation number into the side. Before going through though, Artemis stopped, and angrily punched the air with her fist. She screamed, "What the dang heck is up with me!? Why can't I get that smug, sly face of Black Velocity's out of my head?! He's a villain, I'm a hero. I'm not supposed to be falling for him! We're on two completely different sides of life, and yet, I'm acting like the crushing schoolgirl towards him. I'm his boss, and I let him go! I let a villain run free in the streets! I could... If Waller finds out that I disobeyed the only order she gave me yesterday, I'm so going to be doing much worse, than fixing my father's stupid mistakes! I could very easily be a criminal and a villain, just like my dad and Jade. I'm just what that notorious crook told me I may be. I'm a criminal, for making one stupid mistake, and letting him get away with murder and theft, and for what? Just so he could find him mom, who probably died at some point, because of his father's hands?! Hopeless...that's what I am." Taking a deep breath, and calming down, Artemis took her arm down out of the air, but kept it in a fist. She couldn't understand what was really wrong with her. If she had been assigned to some other villain, like Icicle Jr., then she wouldn't have acted the same way. She would have been strict and orderly, not loose and free. Before she met Black Velocity, she would have easily taken him down, but after meeting him, and learning a little bit about him, she almost felt sorry that he had been bloodborne into a house of villains, where killing was actually a favorite kind of game, and where he had been taught that there is no other life, than the one he had. Of course, she was the same way, but it was different. With her, she had a choice to make, but for the young hotheaded criminal, he was forced to be like his dad, just because he was born with the power and the speed. With Artemis, she had a group of friends that thought she was better that what her genetics told her to be. She was a hero, because of her past. She wanted to change the world positively, instead of dragging it down. Walking through the Zeta-tube awaiting her, Artemis went into the Cave, the Computer announcing, "RECOGNIZED ARTEMIS, B07". As soon as she arrived, she saw Roy standing beside M'gann, and walked up to the two. Artemis asked, "Roy Harper. What do you want? You already cheated on Jade for some other girl." The older teen replied, heat rising in his voice, "For the last time, Artemis, that was a mistake. That other girl hit on me! It wasn't my fault that Jade thought I was doing something bad to our relationship, and was having second thoughts. I still love her and want to marry her, so why don't you just give us your blessing? I know you hate me, but I want to make it work for her. I want to have her as mine. That should be enough evidence to prove the truth, and for you to see the wrong in your choice of no."
