They say that death is the eternal sleep.
The funny part is that I was an inch from death, and I was wide awake. It was a normal Tuesday night and my parents and I were driving home from summer vacation. The only thing I remember is bright lights and screams. The next thing I knew I woke up 7 years later with no one, but doctors and nurses standing around me. I wondered where were my parents? Why were they not next to me? The doctor walked into my room and gave me devastating news.
"Your parents are dead." He said.
"They have been dead." I sat in silence for a while.
"What do you mean they have been dead."? The doctor looked at me.
"You have been in a coma for 7 years Racheal, they died in a car accident 7 years ago." I couldn't believe what I had heard.
"The same car accident that put you into a coma." He walked out of my room to give me time to coup, but I didn't want to be alone. Luckily a boy my age accidently walked into my room.
"Hey Grandma, I brought you some soup." He said.
"Um.... Sorry.....This must be in the wrong room." He smiled and turned to walk away.
"Wait....stay....please...." I begged.
"Um.... I don't want to be rude .......but....... I don't know anything about you." He said.
"I'm sorry.... it's just that my parents are dead and I don't have anyone to talk to." I felt like I told him my life story in one boring sentence.
"That's fine, my Grandma's soup can wait a minute." He smiled at me.
"Thanks." We stood in silence for what seemed like hours, but nothing about it was awkward, he seemed charming yet mysterious.
"I think my Grandma's soup is cold." He laughed. And for the first time in 7 years I laughed back.
