The next morning as Xanthe was heading off to work at the Art Gallery her phone buzzed with a message.
"Can I have lunch with you today?"
It was Summer. Xanthe hoped everything was OK. Maybe Summer had sorted things out with her Dad. She had just replied to Summer when her phone buzzed again.
"Can I see you again tonight? xx"
It was Dominic. She didn't finish work until 8pm. So she agreed to meet him after work. It would be at their usual place.She loved him so much. Even though they had only been together six months. His texts were becoming more frequent now. At first it was maybe once or twice a week. Now he texted almost everyday and they saw each other three to four times a week.
Work was going well. She was working on her newest painting when Summer arrived for lunch. She washed her brushes and grabbed her jacket. They headed to the cafe across the street. It had the best coffee and banana bread. As they ate and drank their coffee, Xanthe wondered how Summer went with her Dad. It was like Summer had read her mind.
"So I talked to Dad yesterday" she said
"How did it go?" Xanthe asked.
"Well he told me not to worry about him. He said he was not actually drinking the whole time." Summer explained.
"Well that's a good start. At least you are talking to each other. Give him time Summer. I am sure he will tell you when he is ready." Xanthe said sympathetically.
"You are right Xanthe. At least he is opening up to me"
The girls finished their coffee. Then they walked back across the street. They hugged each other goodbye and Xanthe went back to work. Xanthe spent her afternoon thinking about tonight. She was looking forward to seeing Dominic again. Even though she had only seen him the night before.
