"Have you found the girl?" Asked a voice hidden by the darkness of a giant courtroom. She repeated her question when there was no response, but this time with an elevated intensity. "Hecate, have you found the girl!"
The slender figure of Hecate was illuminated. Sweat began to beat down his arm; he touched his head to feel the endless cold that gushed from it. He flew the ball he carried between his fingers, trying to break his tension to no prevail. At last, he spoke in a sharp, freezing voice lacking any soul:
"No, ma'am. Phobos is still hiding. Patricia told me nothing; she was always loyal to a fault."
"She is stronger than you will ever be, Hecate," the voice responded, angered at the man's distain for a fellow Society member. These words pained him. If Hecate's voice was like a knife, this vice was like a broadsword. "We both know she wasn't killed in the explosion, therefor she is still a threat. Find the girl Phobos and kill her. If Patricia gets in your way, take her out as well. Fail me again, then you will wind up like your brother."
The final sentence was no better than the first. Hecate wished he could do something to combat the voice, make her feel the pain he so easily gives to others, but, no. The only pain in the black room was the one inside Hecate, his voice cracked as he talked:
"I don't think I can be torn limb from limb, ma'am. My powers won't allow it."
The voice laughed and cruel, evil laugh:
"I will find a way."
Hecate was then forcefully pushed out of the figure's sight by an invisible hand; he was stopped, however, when he shouted:
"One more thing! There is another life form in the city! I don't know how, but she did not escape my spell! She must be powerful, one of us!"
"Kill her as well," were the only words heard before the courtroom lightened, the voice disappearing with the darkness. Hecate sighed. The Chronos Society was relentless, and he knew if he didn't have those woman's heads, his would be on a spike.
