"We made it!" Iris smiled.
"But how do we get out?" asked Laika, "I'm guessing the two giant doors would be too easy."
"You would be wrong," Iris began to walk towards the doors but Phobos grabbed her and pulled her from a shadow that was lingering on the floor.
"Gaea," she whispered.
"Gaea? Like The Earth Mother, right?" Laika questioned. It was Phobos who answered:
"Yes, in myth she not only created the world, she was the world. She birthed the Titans, who bore the Gods, therefore she is the root of everything. The woman with the corresponding name leads the Chronos Society with an iron fist, she was the reason I had to leave."
"So she's like Hecate?"
"He whishes," laughed Iris, "He bows down to Gaea, he is her slave. I'm sure if he had the chance he would kill Gaea and take the Chronos Society for himself."
"That is, Iris, if Gaea could be killed. You see, Laika, Gaea's power is darkness, she doesn't just control the lack of light, she is the lack of light. So long as there is a some shadow in the world she can't be destroyed."
"That's why you pulled Iris from away from the shadow?" Laika asked.
"Which was an unnecessary precaution, may I add," interrupted a play-pouting, cross-armed Iris, "If she really was anywhere near us all light would be taken from around us, there would physically be no light we could see. It would be completely pitch black. Before that happens though, let's go find Athena and get out of here."
The orb sitting on the pedestal began to swirl inside, changing the cloudlike design of the inside of the glass orb. Laika walked towards it and put her hand on it. She froze.
"I think Laika found her," mumbled Phobos.
Voices of thousands of tortured people flew through the head of Laika as she touched the orb. These were the everyday citizens of the city, people just like Laika used to be, screaming out in terror. Hecate must have trapped them all inside of his orb, concealing them to get to Phobos and the people that hid her. The citizens were not dying, but were scared out of their minds. They all called for help, pulling at Laika's brain. They began to feed into her fear, and then she heard the voice of Patricia Noble:
"Ignore them, they are scared. Hecate placed a spell on them to attack anyone who touched the orb. You need to let go, but whatever you do when you leave my voice, never surrender to the Chronos Society. Hecate is just a pawn; you will have to check the king. And Laika, only you can do that."
Laika pulled her hand from the orb and flew backwards into Phobos, knocking her into the ground, and forcing her mask to fall off. At that moment the room began to slowly loose light and a bellowing voice laughed:
"Good job, Hecate, you've brought the traitors right to me."
