Jacob walked in from school while I was in the kitchen making dinner. "Hey! How was your second day?", I asked. "Not good. I had not only embarrassed myself, but also my friend Riley this morning. And to make matters worse, we both left school early and went to Riley's house and we hung out with her friends", he said. "Did you make any more friends?", I asked. "Yes. Her friends are my friends, too", he said. "What happened that made you and Riley leave early?", I asked.

"I accidentally fell asleep. And I pulled Riley into my dream", he said. He started to cry so I hugged him and held him in my arms to help him try to feel better.

"I tried so hard to stay awake", he said while sobbing.

"I was so tired. I had no choice but to sleep. I'm sorry, mom. I'm sorry", he said.

All of us sat and ate dinner on complete silence. I looked over at Jacob and saw him picking at his food with his fork and trying to stay awake. Yvonne noticed, too and she walked over to the fridge and pulled out a tall black can. She then came back and gave the can to Jacob.

"Here. This is Monster. It's an energy drink that'll keep us all awake", she explained. Jacob cracked open his can and gulped it down. After I noticed Jacob was more awake, I grabbed a can for myself and went upstairs.

I didn't understand why the Monster didn't work. I found myself dreaming once I saw a little girl riding a tricycle, smiling and giggling. Yvonne and Jacob both ran into my room.

"Are you ok, mom?", Jacob asked.

"Yes. I'm fine. How about you guys?", I asked.

"We're both fine", Yvonne said. We left my room. My door slammed itself shut. We saw our red door, all dirty. We heard nothing but thunder and the song.

One, two, Freddy's coming for you

Three, four, better lock your door

Five, six, grab your crucifix

Seven, eight, gonna stay up late

Nine, ten, never sleep again

Then the sound of screeches filled the house.
