Wrap-Up

I think the Teng couple just gave the bike a new meaning. The husband drives, the wife holds onto him, both of them headed to the same direction. And that is a #BikeKindOfRelationship , people! 💚

But according to Mika, she loves biking on her own, too. So we can be happy either way. 😉

Mika, you're well-experienced in being a leader. Didn't you have issues about submitting to your husband?

M: Minsan, struggle din. Kahit feeling ko perfect siya eh tao pa rin naman siya (chuckles). He makes mistakes. Sa mga times na yun, diba ang daling isipin na dapat ako na lang nasunod eh, ganun. But I learned that marriage doesn't work that way. Kaya nga ang name niya sa phone ko is Captain. To remind me na siya yung leader ng team namin and ang role ko is to support him. Pag nagkamali siya, I will forgive him and learn with him.

J: (smiles)

M: And the thing about Jeron din naman kasi... he never silenced me. He hears me out and he considers my voice every time we make a decision. Pero sa kanya lagi yung final [decision]. I trust him that way. And ako naman, assured ako na mahal niya ako kaya hindi mahirap na mag-submit sa kanya. Because I know that he means well, and he's always for my good.

I was about to wrap up the interview when Mika herself asked the question I left out. My reason was that I thought the answer was already obvious but it seems she wanted to hear it herself. :)

M: Ikaw, love? (smiles innocently)

J: What?

M: Hindi ka ba hirap sa role mo na mahalin ako? (laughs)

J: (chuckles and gently rubs his chin) Hmmm...

M: Ah ganon.

J: (laughs) Wala pa nga akong sinasabi eh.

M: Eh nag-isip ka.

J: Of course! Hindi naman ako sumasagot ng hindi pinag-isipan. (smirks)

M: Answer it. Ayoko ng sugar-coated.

J: Yes, boss. (smiles) See? Siya talaga yung nasusunod (points at Mika). Kung ako yung team captain, siya yung team manager. (laughs) I'm kidding. But seriously, my role is to make her happy. Mahirap? Depende sa mood niya eh. Although Mika's fairly simple. Hindi siya mahirap pasayahin. I've been loving her for how many years, and it just gets deeper every time.

M: (sticks her tongue out)

J: She does that pag kinikilig siya. (chuckles)

M: Heh! (hits Jeron's arm)

Finger hearts everywhere! Wrapping up this interview, we asked the couple our final questions which reveal what they think about each other.

Aside from your respective sport, name three things your spouse is good at.

M: (points at Jeron) You first.

J: Hmmm... Cooking. Although if you ask me that question back in college, I won't include that.

M: May disclaimer talaga 'no? (laughs)

J: Siyempre gusto ko i-share kung paano ka nag-effort in preparation for being with me. (proudly smiles) What else... Ah, listening. Hindi kasi ako madaldal but she always gets me talking. At night we talk about how our day went. When we wake up, we say hi to each other (laughs). Then over breakfast, we talk about our plans for the day. Simple lang pero it comforts me knowing that someone will always be willing to listen.

M: (smiles)

J: Last one, she's good at... being my wife. That's it.

M: Ok, inaamin kong kinilig ako doon. (laughs) My turn 'no?

J: Ginalingan ko ah.

M: Oh uwi ka na.

J: I'm already home, baby. Kasama kita eh.

M: (covers her face with the throwpillow)

J: Let's wait for her to breathe. (laughs)

M: Kainis ka! Game na nga. (exhales loudly) Jeron's good at... hmmm... ano ba... parallel parking. (laughs)

J: (laughs) She's bad at that. As in umaabot yata kami ng 1 hour sa parking lot kapag siya yung nagda-drive.

M: Oy grabe ka! Fifty minutes lang! Inorasan ko yung last time. (laughs) Yeah, anyway, super opposite kami doon. Siya parang he always gets it right on the first try. Ang daya lang. Ano pa ba... Magaling siyang... mag-pep talk. Mag-encourage, ganon. It's true na he's not really madaldal pero pag nagsalita siya, boom. Basta parang captain. Full of wisdom. I'm blessed to have someone like him, really.

J: I feel the same way with her.

M: Manahimik ka, oras kong magpakilig. (laughs) Last one would be making me mad. Magaling siya dun.

J: What a finale. (turns to Mika) Am I supposed to feel kilig?

M: (turns to Jeron) Di pa kasi tapos, quiet. (turns away) He may be good at pissing me off, but still it's only him who can calm my nerves. Kapag bumawi siya sa akin, sobra-sobra. Kaya gusto ko rin pag nagkakamali siya eh. (laughs)

I can watch and listen to their conversation all day and never get bored, promise.

This time, share one thing your spouse is bad at.

J: Ah, parallel parking, definitely. (laughs)

M: Umamin na nga ako diba. Siya naman... Grocery-shopping.

J: (laughs) That was just one incident! Natuto na kaya ako.

M: Eh wala, nakalista na yun sa ref natin (laughs). One time I asked him to buy red bell pepper pero kamatis binili niya. Ang labo, diba?

J: (laughs) Magkamukha sila eh.

M: (shakes her head) So it's either ako lang or we do groceries together. Mas often yung kaming dalawa kasi naging bonding time na rin namin. Kaya di na rin ako nagrereklamo na he's bad at that. (smiles)

The bad can turn to something good when it comes to love, right? #LearnFromTheTengs

And just like that, we're down to our final question.

What do you want to tell each other right now?

J: Ladies first naman.

M: (chuckles) Sige na nga. Grabe, on the spot naman nito. Wait lang. (pauses and turns to Jeron) Uhm, happy first anniversary, love. (smiles) I always tell you how grateful I am for being your wife, and sobrang... nag-eenjoy akong pagsilbihan ka. Thank you for leading me well. Know that I'll be here to support you in the coming years, and I won't ever get tired of taking care of you. I love you. (smiles)

J: (kisses the back of Mika's hand and holds it still) Mika, thank you for keeping me grounded. I feel blessed beyond belief knowing that I get to spend every day of my life with you. Pakiramdam ko wala na akong pwedeng hilingin pa pero at the same time andoon yung discontent kasi I can't get enough of going home to you. Gusto kong mabuhay nang mas matagal pa kasama ka. It's been a year in our marriage and I want to assure you that you're still the one for me, and always will be. Love you, babe.

I'm done crying. Theirs is truly a kind of love that has always been there, yet made known at the perfect time. And it just gets better through the years.
