Trial [On Hold]

Chapter 2

Zein stared wide-eyed at his father. What the hell did he do? Fear crept into his eyes as he realized what was about to happen. The man that was with his mother definitely wasn't taking his father's words lightly. What the hell am I supposed to do?! Zein thought, still too shocked to do anything.

"Koa, he's our son! Why would you say something so stupid?" His mother yelled, nearly slapping his father, until the other man spoke up.

"Son, come over here. You need to tell me what's going on right now, or I'm going to kill all of you!" He shouted in a demanding tone, causing him to shrink back against the front door. I really can't handle this...what do i do? If he finds out my secret, I'm sure to be killed on the spot..

"Mom, Dad....I'm sorry!" Zein cried out, ripping the door open and running out quickly. He didn't know if they'd be killed because of him running away, but what else could he possibly do? There wasn't any other way out of it than to run, and death was imminent if he couldn't manage to escape. Luckily he'd thought to close the door, since it had slowed down his pursuer. He had already made it into an alleyway between the Purity district and the homes of the abnormals before the man could make it outside. Thankfully his mother had also helped to slow him down enough that Zein could make his grand escape plan work. He'd formulated it in about five seconds, but nonetheless felt that it was a good enough plan to keep him alive for at least the rest of the day.

Quickly, Zein made his way to the home of one of the abnormals he'd met, hoisting himself over the fence and landing sloppily due to his nervousness. "Thank god..." he gasped out breathlessly, the wind knocked out of him from the fall. After recovering for a moment, Zein pushed himself off the ground and ran to his friend's door, pounding on the door with his fist in hopes that he might hear.

It took about five minutes of banging on his door until the man finally opened it, yawning after he had obviously just woken up. "Z-zein? What're you doing here?" He asked groggily, shocked by his sudden appearance.

"Well, something really, really bad just happened...If I go back to my home, well..." He stammered, his eyes darting around as he searched his brain for the best explanation. "Kuzo..I'm sorry....m-my Dad told some...some guy that I'm not my brother...so now they're after me," He finally finished after a long pause.

"What?! What if they check the fences!? If that happens, they're gonna kill me too, you know that right!?" He spat, but Zein knew he meant well. His core emotion was greed, so he wasn't really one to put others above himself in any sort of situation, but he knew his friend still cared about his well being.

"I know...I'm still trying to work this out, but...well..We need to get the others. Really. If we don't-well, like you said. If they manage to find out I've broken out and they go ahead and check on everyone else's fences, the others need to be prepared for that," Zein stated, trying to calm him down. "Don't worry Kuzo, I'll think up a plan...really, and I'm going to make sure all of you stay alive. If I die, well, that's my own fault for being so reckless with all of this."

"Don't talk like that you idiot! I won't let you die! Ugh.. Why'd your Dad have to go and do that? Isn't he supposed to care about you?" He asked, but then he cut Zein off again before getting an answer. "I mean..you're right. The others have a right to know....Okay, let's go. He should be out of this area by now, right? And he's going to check your place really soon, so we have to get this done as quickly as possible."

"No, no...It doesn't matter if they find out about my fence being broken today, they still won't have enough time to search all of the other ones before we can tell them. I think we should try to figure out a plan, then we'll go get them tomorrow. 'Course, they'll definitely be on my tail after I miss my scan," Zein pointed out, causing Kuzo to frown, turning his gaze up to the ceiling.
"Well, Let's figure this out!" Zein said, determined to set everything right, and he gained a look of agreement from Kuzo.
