"Thanks for bringing me here." Phil said as he lifted the liquor to his lips. The substance burned all the way through, leaving a beautiful afterglow of numbness buzzing in his head.

"No problem." Pj smiled, watching the waves of the ocean softly rock back and forth.

This wasn't just any beach to Phil, and PJ knew it. This was the last place he saw his father before he had left him and his mother. Pj wasn't the only one who knew this, of course, dan did as well. Dan knew so much about him, yet he still couldn't keep his promise and accept him for who he was.

Dan and Rachel were perfect for each other. All they cared about was their image and that was all they would ever care about.

"Phil you're thinking again." Pj commented.

"Yeah I do that often." Phil laughed.

"Do you think you can face him again?" Pj asked.

"I want to give it some time. Then, maybe after a few drinks, I can." Phil knew with the help of liquor he would gain the courage, then really give dan an earful.

Phil knew he was too good to be true. The universe had proven time and time again to phil that he wasn't meant for a happy ending. Phil could either wallow around and perhaps fail school, or he could own his mistakes and finish school with some dignity.

---

A whole week had gone by. Phil was just barely going to graduate and he was planning on moving far away from this town when he did. He had seen Dan in the hallway a total of 2 times, once, Rachel and her clique were chatting him up and he had made eye contact with Phil before his attention was quickly pulled back to the girls. The second time, Phil had been walking home, passing by the football field, when he saw Dan jogging with the other football players. Dan had seen him and fell flat on his face. Phil had walked home laughing the entire way. The jerk deserved it.

Phil also saw him everyday in first period. He noticed Dan avoided looking in his direction and had figured that he had denied ever knowing him to his friends. He had to keep up his image, of course.

Phil decided that it was finally time to tell Dan how he felt.

It was the last football game of the year and phil knew dan would be in the boy's locker room getting ready.

Without a second thought, phil stormed into the locker room, ignoring the homophobic slurs being thrown at him by half naked football players.

"Don't flatter yourselves. You're all soooo far from my type." Phil replied, rolling his eyes.

He finally found Dan leaning against a locker and talking to his friends. Phil had to stop himself from drooling at the fact that there was no shirt in sight, just flawless, freckled, smooth skin.

Phil cleared his throat and Dan turned around. He jumped a little and stared at him with wide eyes.

"Hey asshole, I just wanted to get a few things off my chest then I promise you will never have to speak to me or even look in my direction ever again." Dan's teammates snickered behind him as Phil bossed him around.

"Phil I-" Dan started, with a guilty look on his face.

"-I don't want to hear it Dan. Just listen to what I have to say." Phil tried his best to hold himself together. He wasn't about to let them see him cry.

"I don't blame you... for anything. Because you turned out to be exactly who I knew you were, some fake, entitled, prince that sits comfortably on his throne and offers the less fortunate, gullible people all the false wishes he can. I was the stupid one who actually fell for it. But I'm not here to ask for your pity because god knows you've given me enough of that. I just want to tell you that I know how it feels, to feel like you don't belong, to be scared of what others think. But who thefuck cares? Really...in this school all anyone cares about is their image and everyone is afraid to be themselves. I thought you of all people would understand that by now. And the one person to offer you acceptance in this ocean of fakeness known as high school was me. Stupid, stupid me. We both get outed and who's the one that has to take all the shit from everyone? Me. But you know how I handle all of their hurtful words and taunts? I believe in myself, I accept who I am. And even though my parents hate me, my dad is gone, my grades are shit, and the entire school thinks I'm a slut who's into every guy that I make eye contact with; it's you that I feel sorry for. I know that you feel just as alone as I do in this world. And I know that the guy who sent those texts was the real you, not some fake, entitled, price, but i can't wait for him to come out of his shell." Phil finished. Dan gave him a pained expression.

"3 minutes guys, be ready!" Someone called.

"Goodbye Dan," Phil turned and hurried off, taking a deep breath when he reached the exit. Pj pushed off the lockers where he had been waiting and walked with him down the hall.

"How did it go?" He asked.

"Better than I expected." Phil gave him a small smile.

"Are you heading home?" Pj asked.

"Yeah, I think so. You?" Phil shrugged.

"Well I was actually going to stay for the game, you know, to support Chris."pj stopped walking and pointed towards the field.

"You know what? I think I'll join you." Phil smiled.

"Are you sure you can handle it?" Pj asked, concerned.

"If things get too heavy I'll leave." Phil shrugged as they began to walk to the field.

"I'm proud of you Phil." Pj side hugged him.

"Yeah, me too."
