Alec had rushed into the room. A wave of disappointed almost carrying him off his feet as he realized that Magnus wasn't there. He hesitated and walked over to the window. He looked at the fall. Two stories. He bit his lip, Magnus was worth it. Every broken bone. He would be worth it. He didn't think twice this time as he attached some sheets and shirts together until they brushed the ground beneath. He drew a balance rune and night vision as well as speed on himself, ignoring the burning pain.
He pushed the cloth out the window. Wrapping an end into a knot around the leg of the bed hoping it would stay. He let out a shaky breath, his heart already speeding up. But he was a shadowhunter, and if Jace could do it, which he had many times, so could he. He was half in half out of the window when there was a shout,"Alexander!"
He jumped at the sound and yelled as he felt himself fall down in a very ungraceful manner. Half way down the fall he pulled himself together and got a hold of the rope of textile. He wrapped it around his waist tightly, making his way back up with long composed jumps, like a shadowhunter. He pulled more, just a little more. Then he saw who had called out to him. Cat-like eyes stared down at him. Concern, lack of sleep, and something else in them. That warmth that Alec has seen before. It set his heart on fire. Beating fast, and almost painfully as he looked up at him. His feet lost balance and the world in front of him tilted just like it had last time, white spots clouding his vision.
"Alec!" Magnus yelled using his magic to bring him closer and help. Alec shook his head to clear his vision then, one last jump. Finally he got through the window panting only slightly where as a mundane would be breathing heavily but if he was as healthy as a shadowhunter should be the air come in and out of him would be even and indifferent.
Magnus helped drag him through the window.
"Alexander, what did you think you were doing?!" Magnus demanded after shutting the window and Alec was settled on the bed taking a small bit of Yin fen then deciding he didn't need it and putting it back in the box that Magnus had given him for his birthday.
"I was going out to see you." Alec mumbled looking up at him with a look that was both determined and shy.
"You would've fallen!" Magnus exclaimed.
"No I wouldn't have! I'm not called a shadowhunter for nothing! I might not be as strong as Jace. Not as handsome. Not as known.. But I am not a mundane. So stop treating me like one.." Alec growled, letting out what had been building up inside him for sometime now.
"I need to protect you somehow.." Magnus murmured flinching.
"But I don't need protecting." Alec muttered feeling guilty for snapping at him.
"I keep messing up." Magnus mumbled to himself. Hesitantly he put a hand on Alecs cheek. Alec blushed slightly not pulling away to Magnus's relief. He smiled softly at him.
"I-" Alec broke off, losing himself in Magnus's beautiful amber eyes. He broke eye contact. His eyes on the wall behind Magnus, pretending to be interested by it. The paint seemed to be coming off, its blue color fadi-
"I'm sorry." Magnus mumbled gently caressing Alecs cheek. A painful gentleness that made Alec feel warm inside.
"For what?" Alec murmured leaning his head on his hand a little.
"Yesterday.. When we were messing around.. I-I don't know what happened... Just.." Magnus trailed off, a look of frustration in his eyes.
"You did nothing wrong." Alec reassured him, his eyes lingering on Magnus's lips.
"But I wasn't there for you when you fell unconscious. I heard someone coming up and I panicked because I thought-" Magnus started but Alec cut him off.
"I know, I know. I mean I know that you don't want the Shadowhunters to see you but I don't know why- oh and don't come at me with that Filthy demon blooded warlock shit. You might think of yourself as that but I don't and they wouldn't either." Alec said sternly.
"Oh but won't they?" Magnus said with a sad smile.
Alec bit his lip, Izzy and Jace wouldn't, but Maryse and Robert.. Well they were part of the circle once. That explains plenty.
The circle was a group of Shadowhunter youth. They had thought that to make the world pure all living things with demon blood had to be rid of, no matter if they were part human.
Then there were people like the Whitelaws who believed in the accords and that Downworlders were people too. Now.. Everyone knows what happened to them. As the Seelie Queen would say,'Dead, dead, dead.'
"What about you?" Magnus snapped him out of his thoughts,"What do you think of me." he asked with a smirk.
Alec felt heat rush into his cheeks. "I-I think y-you are an amazing f-friend." he stuttered.
"Oh I can't imagine what you'd say at my funeral." Magnus teased.
"Yeah too bad you're not dying any time soon." Alec teased back.
Magnus gave a pretend hurt look which Alec took a bit too seriously. Okay a lot too seriously.
"I-I d-didn't mean it l-like t-that." Alec stammered, his face was pale but Magnus knew that if he had as much Yin fen as he needed he would be full on blushing.
"Oh I know." Magnus laughed while Alec glared.
"Meany." he mumbled.
"Meany? Isn't that like a kindergarten word?" Magnus burst out laughing again.
Alecs eyes narrowed as he glared more. His smile betraying him.
"Show me what you got." Magnus said suddenly after he stopped laughing.
"What?" Alec hadn't even finished saying this when Magnus pushed him off the bed, instinctively he got a hold of the headboard, pulling himself back up.
"Oh." he smirked. "You wanna play like that?" he jumped off the bed onto the wall, hitting the wall with his feet and pushing off the wall to make a neat flip and landing behind Magnus who was just as quick, taking his leg and making him lose his balance. He caught him before he fell and they both stared at each other for a few moments before laughing. Magnus with his arms around Alec and Alec holding onto him back, their foreheads touching as they laughed.
Magnus had opened his eyes when he saw him laughing, and without thinking he pressed his lips against the shadowhunters own.
