Chapter six

Five years ago~

Magnus's P.O.V

It was cold. Considering the fire at the end of the alley. The night was cold. It would've pierced my heart if I wasn't used to it. Something terrible would happen tonight. I wouldn't interfere.

'The shadowhunters should do their job better.' I thought coldly. They say their job was to protect humanity.. yet. Most of their wars were between each other.

I found myself stopping. I couldn't turn away from the scene.. maybe was that too cruel? I sigh. 'I'll just make sure the situation doesn't get out of hand.' I thought hesitantly. Then I heard a cry. A gurgled, heart shattering cry.

It was a little boy.. twelve? Maybe thirteen years old? His eyes were blue. His hair was dark black. In his eyes was fear but also a blue fire of determination.

'He thinks he can win.' I suddenly realized. 'This little Shadowhunter.. this foolish boy? No way.. was he acting alone? He probably hasn't called reinforcements.. this foolish. FOOLISH BOY'

A black shadow seemed to get closer to him yet he stood his ground, seraph blade in hand and yelled,"Don't come any closer or by the angel I'll kill you!"

"ALEXANDER!" Someone was yelling in the distance. "ALEC!" Another voice screamed. It seemed to be a boy and a girls voice.

For the first time there was fear in Alecs eyes. And the demon seemed to take advantage of that split second. The demon seemed to have cornered him and I found myself about to step in when with a flash of his hand he cut at the demons face with a shard of glass. Only then did I realize the alley seemed to be full of broken beer bottles and the boys hand was bleeding from gripping the shard of glass so tightly.

The demon seemed caught off guard and Alec almost escaped.. if only he had reacted 2 seconds earlier. The demon dragged him down to the ground.

Damn it! Here I was again stepping in to where I don't belong. The demon might've of heard me sigh, maybe he saw me from the corner of his eye. Maybe he felt me presence but what I did know for sure was that from that moment on I'd never stop feeling guilty.

"Don't move." He snarled suddenly pressing something on the boys neck. Alec? That's what they'd been screaming earlier.

He wouldn't actually hurt the shadowhunter right? He knew better than that... right?

"Let him go or I kill you." I said the glowing fingertips ready to attack at any moment.

"He's mine now." Said the demon proudly, grinning. "To add to my collection of pretty shadowhunters.. he's quite a pretty one isn't he?" He asked laughing.

I raised my hand at that moment. I really wish I hadn't. I wish I'd been more discreet. Tried something else.. Whatever it was that the demon had pressed against his neck sunk into his skin. The boy let out a yell and his eyes were filled with pain as he struggled to get out of his grasp.

"ALEC!" The two voices from earlier sounded a lot closer now. A blonde haired boy and a girl who kind of looked like the other boy ran into the alley.

Seeing he was outnumbered he let go of the black haired boy, letting his body fall to the ground. Whatever he stuck into his neck, whether it be poison or any kind of drug had knocked him out. He slipped into the shadows.

The blond haired boy glanced at me with wide eyes. He opened his mouth to speak when the girl who was kneeled down by who i assume was his brother yelled,"Jace! Jace! We need to get him help! He won't wake up!" He rushed to her side, not wanting to be part of this scene I stepped into the darkness, watching from afar.. as the little boy who's life I put in danger was taken away.

I stood there a while longer. It just didn't seem to sink in. Though I'd seen worse I felt like this time there was something I could've done differently to stop it. If I'd stepped in sooner. But no matter what I'll take care of this boy from now on. I owed him at least that..
