This year
I have morning classes
We attend in shifts
Morning and afternoon
So everyone can fit
Inside the
Tiny school
Since I have
Afternoons free,
Mother trusts that I
Shop at the open market
She gives
30 Afghan afghani
To buy
70 grams of pork,
A bushel of water spinach
And 9 cubes
Of tofu
But I secretly
Was buying
69 grams of pork
¾ of a bushel of spinach
8 and ½ cubes of tofu
The money saved
I bought 4 apricots
One sugary fried dough
And a cup of honey
I will make
Sweet apricot rolls
For our family
In favor of father's wonderful creation
