Leaves and branches crack as I run away. His house is against the woods so nobody saw me. I've been running for at least an hour. My lungs and legs burn. Sweat covers my forehead. Too much adrenaline is coursing through me to stop. I haven't heard anything yet, but I want to get as far as I can away. A familiar road appears. I follow it up and sprint as fast as I can.

The palace gates appear. Guards are standing at the front. They see me running and draw their guns. I wave my arms, "Don't shoot!" They put their weapons back in their holsters once they realize it's me. Other guards run towards me. A familiar face appears. I run in his arms and fall into him. "Oh my God the whole palace is shaken. I'm so glad you're safe," Aspen says. I sob in his arms never wanting to go through that again. He walks me in the palace bridal style.

My head is pounding, and I don't know if blood is on my head or not. He runs me to the hospital wing and lays me down on a bed. Nurses come and grab bandages and gaws. They clean my wound on my forehead. Then put a bandage on it. "We're goning to have to put stitches on the wound your majesty. It may hurt but it will help a lot." I didn't realize it was that bad.

Everytime the needle pierces my skin I clench my fists. I grit my teeth together. Once they're done they clean it again. I sit back and shut my eyes.

I wake up mumbling nonsense. I crack my eyes open and feel a hand holding mine. Maxon has it on his cheek as he sleeps. I slide my hand out of his. He jerks his head up. His eyes look into mine then to my forehead. "America I'm so sorry. I feel like I should've done something. When I heard you were taken I didn't think I could live anymore. And knowing I didn't get to say I love you to you," he says shaking his head, "it killed me. And then leaving you with a fight. I can never do that again. I can never sleep without you in my arms. I didn't sleep a second last night. Try to sleep, knowing that you thought I cheated on you shattered my heart-" He stops rambling when our lips collide. He caresses my cheek and pulls back, "I never got the chance to tell you that I was planning a dinner with Mary for you. That's what you heard." I slap my forehead then groan in pain. "I feel like an idiot."

"You're my idiot," Maxon says kissing my cheek. I punch his shoulder. "I feel terrible now. Making both of us go through that. Why didn't you tell me?"

"I had to think what exact words you were talking about. The dinner was supposed to be a secret til tomorrow night on the balcony. Mary was helping me by getting you there."

"I'm sorry," I say.

"I am too."

"You have nothing to be sorry over. As long as you're safe you should never be sorry." I lean into his lips. He pulls away looking at me. "What?"

"I feel awful for not protecting you from this. If I would've just went to you for just a second none of this would've happened. A guard wouldn't be dead. I wouldn't have been worried sick. You wouldn't have a stitched up forehead."

"We're together right now. And right now is all that matters," I say staring into his eyes. We both lean in and our lips touch with more passion. I've missed this feeling. Even though it's been about a day. It felt like years. "Are you ready to get out of here?" Maxon says and I nod. He lifts me up delicately and takes me to my room.

He lays me on the bed. Mary comes in and I change into my nightgown. Maxon comes out of the bathroom in his little briefs. Mary and Paige leave the room. He lifts the sheets up and I snuggle up against his chest. "I love you," he says then touches his lips to the top of my head. That night I fall asleep in the arms of the man I love.
